Hypnotism - Thoughts?

Would you say it would be fair to compare this experience to a controlled dream? Obviously with a much more beneficial outcome

Honestly.....i couldn't answer that mate, not sure i've ever had a controlled dream, sorry.

It just seemed very clever how i guided myself through certain parts, then was guided in others to enable me to take control again come to a conclusion on my own. It worked anyway and showed how powerful it was.

Well i have just been to see my Doctor and explained everything he basically said that i have moved from a low state of stress which wasnt effecting me to having everything "hit" me at once with recent issues which has moved me from stress to early stages of depression.

He said it needs to be stopped now so has given me some anti-depressents however they are the lowest dosage so act more as an anti-anxiety he said to use them before going to bed (taking 1) if problems persist to go back to him in 2 or 3 weeks and he will refer me to councelling.

I mentioned hypnosis to him, and got the expected response of; try more convential methods first, before going that route.

Still intrigues me though!

Amongst all the different session i had with my uncle we did:
1) trigger actions/words
2) past life regression
3) guided imagery
4) memory conditioning
5) deliberate habit suppression

the above aren't specific terms, just how i can best describe them.

To be fair, most GP's won't advise alternative therapies like hypnotherapy etc because its still classed as unconventional in the eyes of many medical practitioners.
Shortsighted imho, but hey ho.
My friend who is a GP fully embraces alternatives and regularly performs acupuncture.

it's still a very interesting summation, has made me very curious, even as a one-off exploratory experience I would be tempted to give it a go, moreso after reading what you said

yeah, luckily for me, it was my uncle whom i trusted completely and he gave out 100% discount to family :)
Thats why we tried so many different things. I wasn't 'in need' of therapy so experiementation (well within the boundaries i might add) was common.

i've just always felt that I have had emotional barriers preventing me from moving forward and although as i've grown up and matured slightly i've been able to get over some of those things myself it would be nice having a suupporting hand in dealing with the niggles that are left. Not sure if it's a hypnotist or a councillor i need though lol!

I'm very tempted by giving "gut-directed hypnosis" a go to be honest.
I have reasonably mild IBS, I'm currently on a small dose of Prothiaden (a tricyclic antidepressant) to help, just 25mg before bed. They really do work and although not 100% I feel much better and don't get panic attacks anymore when on public transport.

Gut directed hypnosis is meant to be really quite effective from what I've read, but I'm not sure if there are any people qualified in it over here in Prague. I'll definately be looking and researching into it a lot more before I jump into it but not having to take pills to have a reasonably normal life sounds great.

Always wondered about getting hypnotised in order to help stop smoking...

A friend of a friend who i know of used to smoke (well he still does but i will come to that) and he got really fed up of smoking a while ago to the point where he just wanted to stop but couldnt, he smoked normal cigarettes as well as roll-ups. He then heard of this special practice that specialise in quitting smoking (not the NHS one) and he went along to it thinking oohh i bet this wont work etc why am i bothering and so on. At the start of the session he got told as well as everyone else that in 15 mins time they would start the procedure and to now go outside and to have the last cigarette that they will ever and after this last one they will enver have one ever again.

So he had his cigarette with all the other guys and then they went into this hall and got told to lye down on these seperate single beds. Then he got told to listen to this voice very carefully and to only concerntrate on his voice, as he was looking at the clock on the wall it was 10:05am and then they all got told to shut there eyes, when he next opened his eyes he got up and the instructor who did the voice said thats it its finished you can all go now, the guy thought what?? Its only been 5 or so mins since i closed my eyes?!?! He then looked at the clock - 11:15am! All the other guys thought it was a joke and that the clock had been altered on purpose but the instructor insisted that they all had been in some sort of sleep for over an hour but the guy i know swore that he had his eyes closed for 5 mins but he could not recolate what happened in the time between 10:05 and 11:15 and it just seemed a blank to him.

So the guy i know left and he never had a single cigarette again for over 3 weeks up untill he had a game of poker with 3 of his friends who all smoked. Then something was wrong, his hands were trembling and he felt faint and started to sweat, he did not know what was wrong and his mate gave him a cigarette (oops) and once he had a puff of it all the problems he starting getting while at the poker table stopped and he's been hooked on cigarette's again ever since.

That was probably the only real hypnosis story that iv ever heard and what he said was unbelievable.

So you don't have nightmares about being upside down and drowning in salt?

Lol.....what?! Mr Random post of the day! :p

Col_M, yeah my uncle said that its a great success rate for ibs.

He's always stated that over 90% of all illness have a mental background that can be cured by hypnosis.

Make of that what you will, but beleiving is so often part of the cure.

Ohhhhhhh i see now, the 'uncle' thing.
Lol, yeah i did think that constantly referring to him him as uncle could have some p***-taking consequences.
I could use his initials instead, but......... BJ (?) c'mon, gimme a break! :p

Still very interesting to me - might just get a free conseltation and see what happens, a lot of positives from this thread.
