NXE Official thread

Bought a 2nd 120gb last night for my other xbox and got confirmaton of my suspicions that they were marked incorrectly at £70 - the manager of the store was not very happy :)

Hopefully they will sort out the issues that are plaguing some people with regards to NXE. So far I have been lucky myself, and its run well for the larger part with the exception of the occasional error in marketplace, and the party chat sometimes being tempermental.

Overall, I am happy, but I do wish they would reduce the amount of advertisements thrown in my face - or at least allow me to set the "my xbox" blade as the default.

having an issue with RB2, which has been 'installed' to the hdd.

well ive only noticed it with RB2 as thats what ive been playing recently but when i get a system notification, my system lags to hell for about 15 seconds --very annoying in the middle of a song!

anyone else get this?

UPDATE:

It would seem that any resolution other than 1920x1080 is smooth as butter.

I've selected 1280x720 for the time being. I bought the monitor specifically to run 1080p from the 360, oh well. Here's hoping Microsoft acknowledges these issues people are having.

Still can't believe I'm the only one experiencing this problem at 1920x1080 :(

To be fair unless you are using a HD-DVD drive having the 360 in 1080 or 720 makes no difference as pretty much none of the games even run higher than 720P.

I realise that. Tbh, if I could have found a 20"+ monitor with native 1280x720, I would've bought it. The 360 does a marginally better job of upscaling than my monitorto 1080p.

I upgraded to the G2400W from a HP 2207h to cure the 16:10 vertical stretch effect. My G2400W was fine before NXE, the 2207H was not. Since NXE, they've swapped places!

I have a question:

My 360 has been updated to XNE, but the girlfriend's hasn't. What happens if I take my HDD to her place for my saves etc?

Any way I can download the update and burn to a disc to update at hers? No BB at the moment there.

Cheers :)

Having played a bit more with it, I like the new features and everything seems a bit more slick, but I still want an option to disable avatars as I want to punch my monitor the minute the camp little cretin appears.

If you have that much of a problem with them, may I suggest mental health issues that you probably should get checked out?

If it's anything like the updates in the past it will automatically install the update from your HDD when you attach it to her 360.

Its through HDMI on mine but I am running 1080p without problem if that helps

Oooo, didn't know it did that with the other updates !

Cheers

One thing to be aware of though - the NXE is split into two parts. The first is 8MB or so which sits in the 360's internal flash and contains the basic dash (needed so it can boot up with no storage device, obviously). The second part is automatically downloaded when you sign into Xbox Live and needs 120MB or so of storage space - this is for the avatar stuff.

So, if you take your HD and put it on another non-NXE console, it'll install the basic 8MB flash update. The avatar stuff will already be on your HD, so after putting the original HD/memory card back on, there won't be any avatar stuff until it's signed into Live again so it can download it.

As of right now there's no way to burn the avatar portion to a CD for offline installs, only the flash portion.

Sure its been mentioned already, but I do really like the way you can see a lot more information about the Marketplace stuff. I was looking through the Arcade games last night and it was really good to see an initial picture/poster for each one to give you a feeling of what the games was about. Then flick a couple of pages? across and there a selection of screenshots available too. Not sure this is such a good thing for the developers though, as I looked at the screenshots for most and thought 'Nooo', but still a nice feature anyway :)

Is it just me but Messenger won't sign in on the NXE. I think I may have had issues before I put the NXE on, but I can't remember. It's really annoying as I'd like to be able to run both Live and Messenger as you normally can.

It just says "Can't sign in to Messenger". :(

So that actual new dash will get installed, just not all the flashy Avatar stuff?
