Grand Theft Auto 4

Finished GTA4 on the PS3 months ago. Only GTA game I've completed. I'm going to wait for mods to come out for the PC version before buying it.

2.5GHz Opetron 165,
2GB PC3500LL Pro RAM,
8800 GTS 640MB OC.

I've been in the GTA scene/community for well over 8 years now and have messed about creating a couple cars etc along the way, made loads for GTA1 :D.

Looks like I will need to rob the bank to get myself a nice upgrade so I can play this :(

sell the type r

And considering the fact that it runs poorly on 3cores to begin with and at low res compared to PC standards!

Unfortunately the Rage engine for GTA IV is still based on Renderware which lately has been very console focussed rather than PC. Al lthe GTA 3D series has used some interation of Renderware though and suffered Crysis like unoptimisation.

Looking back I think I only ever upgraded my PC for GTA anyway, as my system is largely unchanged since SA PC came out. My 7900 GTX died do I got the GTS 640 instead.

It would amuse me somewhat if GTA runs significantly better on quad cores, flying in the face of the perceived wisdom that dual cores are better for gaming.

i dont see problem how it will not run on that rig. ether if u use insane high res or your cpu at stock

I use 1280x1024 on a flat panel.

My CPU is at stock because it is quick enough for everything at that speed and you can use speedstep etc, but I will overclock for GTA if necessary and if it makes a big difference.

I am thinking of selling my E8500 but am hoping that GTA IV will indeed run smooth on full.

it will, i just know it will WILL

good c2d and good gfx = good game
good quad and not so good gfx = not so good

there has to be a happy medium

You mean you hope it will ;)

Let's face it, if a demanding game which is designed for three or four cores comes out, dual cores will struggle regardless of what you overclock them to. And multi core is the future.

like i said before
rockstar arent going to make a game targeting quadcore customers only, it would be a very silly thing to do.
the right combo of cpu and gfx card will work i think.
you get a user with a q6600 and a 8600gt
you get a user with a e8600 and a 4870 x2 or 280
who is going to have better gameplay ?

I predict that dual core users will see a performance drop in this game with higher settings TBH!

You hope..

I think it's possible that it may take advantage of more than 2 cores but hardly using the others. Hopefully a 4GHz C2D will certainly outperform a 2.4GHz quad in this..

EVERYBODY HOPES!!

Depends if it's a CPU or GPU dependent game.

I think it is UT3 where a quad 2.4 outperforms a dual 3.33. GTA 4 might be the same.

Maybe so but we all know nobody runs a Q6600 at 2.4GHz, 3gHz minimum or epic fail :)
