Grand Theft Auto 4

It really annoys me when the quoted system requirements are a blatant lie. A game should run WELL if your machine meets the recommended requirements. People have machines which massively exceed the recommended requirements and are getting 20fps? What?!

Looks like the 360 and PS3 did a good job at getting this game to run smooth (ish).

I don't think you can draw any conclusions about the hardware capabilities of the different platforms from this game's performance. This game is obviously just very badly coded on the PC.

Examples of good cross platform games are Grid which runs at 60fps maxed out on midrange PCs, when the console version was 30fps. Or Unreal Tournament III which again runs maxed easily on modest PCs and the console version is 30fps.

You need to cut down the settings some more. Any idea what it takes to get a good 30fps in this? I've been looking forward to this but it certainly looks like upgrade time for my 8800gts 320mb!

EDIT: From what you guys are saying i'm leaning (and hoping) towards driver/software issues here. I'm gettting this at christmas so hopefully we'll have a better idea by then.

ok I think it's safe to assume that R* have epic failed with GTA4 on the PC 9and on the whole on consoles too because of the gfx quality and performance). Runs worse than Crysis Warhead and that's saying something!

I don't understand why they've screwed up royally, dead space/fallout 3/bioshock all recent console ports that play flawlessly on most machines.

Can it really be so hard?

I don't get it.

The graphics really look terrible to me....AND it runs like total crap?

What a POS game, how can they even release something like this?

back to playing good ole' CoD4. Nothing has topped it for me yet. Looking forward to Starcraft 2
