Grand Theft Auto 4

Not read the last er 4 pages so bear with me.

How is it a great game?

I think you're reading into that wrong. I would imagine that fox (certainly its how I feel) that GTA historically has been great. GTA games (since GTA3 anyway) have always been fun, get in and drive, shoot, blitz around games.

GTA4 just isn't.

Not so much a ruin of a great game, but ruin of a great name :(

I think the point he was trying to convey was that the PC doesn't offer any games that the other platforms offer other than crysis, whereas the consoles have many games that the PC doesn't.

What he has overlooked however is that the games that the PC shares with the consoles the PC typically, i say typically as this title clearly doesn't follow the trend, runs games better than the consoles. Thus giving the PC a rather large appeal that the consoles lack.

Thankyou Streeteh, that trend is the reason I game on the PC, that alongside the perfect control system and awesome online community.

However that trend that we are now relying on is starting to drain away, I mean if rockstar can't be arsed who can?

I know one thing... You never predicted the crap frame rate on everyones rigs and not being able to run it maxed....
I predicted, but never mentioned crap frame rates when I saw that a quad core was recommended. I mean wtf lol, I couldn't stop laughing. That shocked me a lot.

Yeah, I can understand that then. I actually do love GTAIV as I have it on my 360. Never had any complaints about the visuals/audio side - only the very, very plain missions, which pale compared to San Andreas or Saints Row 2. I am hoping the add-on due on the consoles in Feb 09 will introduce more variety.

^Trust me. As SR1 had miles more things to do than San Andreas, SR2 destroys GTAIV in terms of stuff to do. Shame it's car handling is poor. Duran Duran and Aha ***! LD

Well, after the initial problems of getting it to run I am not impressed and very dissapointed.

My system is very modest, not seeing much of an upgrade in a few years. I am on an 8800GTS 320mb card. To be honest, until now most games have looked good and been able to run acceptably and this is the first one it has just failed on.

I have seen the Xbox version and it looks miles better, sadly always waited for the PC release and until now every single one has been better than console equivalent. I thought San Andreas was damn awesome and worth the wait.

I'm not a graphics whore by any standard and have played games that have graphically been "meh" but the gameplay has been stunning. This looks worse than San Andreas and I can't play a game that, by today's standards, looks ridiculous.

Words can't describe really. I think after new year its time for a serious upgrade graphically and I might give it another go. Who knows, by then Rockstar might release a magical patch or two and it might make all the difference.

Until then I'm keeping my fingers crossed....

Tbh I wouldn't get your hopes up about MP either. Its fun for about an hour...

Becuase I thoroughly enjoyed the 360 version and it's MP and it was only the constant auto aim crap that ruined it for us. Once we got a game going with no autoaim it was awesome and certainly more than an hours fun.

15 - 30fps here in a GTX260 with an overclocked E6400 to 3Ghz

This shows you that the game has some kinda problem because I am having to run it in 1600 with everything on low and I still only get the above.

Any idea how I can make my Saitek P880 controller work with this game? I'm not prepared to use keyboard and mouse for driving or go out and buy a 360 controller tbh...

Haha, I was considering trying to run this game on my 7900GS but I better stay way clear of this until I get a 4870 in the near future

Fair's fair. I stuck to the SP side of GTAIV and quite liked it but saw the flaws and was quite angry about that. I only played about two days of MP and just gave up in disgust.

I would guess that it's the physics engine to blame for the poor performance, since PC processors aren't that much better than what the consoles have.

They should have used Physx...
