Grand Theft Auto 4

ive read through this thread not sure if this has been asked before?

why are the shadows like dots if anyone gets me or is it something else not sure how to explain it?

It's not *that* bad.

I've got it going at 1900x1200 with high textures and rendering and all the distances down at 20 and it's very playable. Stutters a little but I'm hoping the new beta cats will sort that out.

3.2ghz quad, 4870, 4gb, vista 64 sp1

This is crap, i still can't log into the Social Club and if i don't log in it take me back to the start of the game.
I'm going to uninstall this so called game, never again will i buy a console to pc game.

High textures? I am guessing you're running a 1GB 4870 then.

I can only select medium textures at 1920x1200 on my 512, and even then it's a slideshow.

Wow I just had a police chase and it ran okish!

Then it crashed to desktop - RESC10. Apparently that means out of video memory.

Out of video memory? I have a 1Gb video card! Given the only way of getting more is some sort of SLI/Crossfire based solution which the game doesn't support...
Try running it on Medium Detail with reduced draw distance

Sorry, yeah it's the 1gb one.

Very lucky actually... I nearly got the 512, but the 1gb was this week only at the time, for about £180!

@marlos
Afaik social club has nothing to do with savegames.

You should have logged into an online ''live'' account at start though, first playing with an offline ''games for windows live'' profile and then going online always resets your savegames, it also happens in Fallout 3, Flatout ultimate carnage, etc...

You can't get anymore, if you pair 2x 1gb cards in Xfire/SLi, then you will still only have 1gb, so have to wait for a proper single card to come out with more than 1gb onboard.:(

Just played for 10 mins, full hardware freeze (no CTD or BSOD) and upon boot I found my bios had fully reset. Great.

Save games are located here incase ppl wondering.

C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV

Okay got it to run. Now got another problem...

When selecting graphics options...it won't let me put them all to highest! Gives me some red text about settings being too high etc...how can I by pass this setting?

To late i've uninstalled the crap game now & i'm not going to put it back on, I got so peed off with it almost smashed my G5.

Too all those saying the shadows are wrong, from what I can see in the posted screenies that is exactly how they looked on the 360 too. They're not broken as such, just not good to begin with.
