Grand Theft Auto 4

Guys I am hoping you can help me. I have still not played the game. I am still having the no textures issue still. I have tried following the GTA and steam forums on possible fixes and don't know what to do next.

So far I have Installed and reinstalled 180.48 3 times using the safe mode driver sweeper method. Then tried 180.70 twice installed and wiped using the safe mode method. Updated directX, Resetting Rivatuner to stock. USe the ingame grpahics to set all the settings to low. Tried the shortcut with the command line parameters twice but that didn't work.

Most peeps seem to solve there no texture issue. But I just can't work out what I am doing wrong.

If you could help that would be greaty appreciated. Here's my PC info to see if you could provide any insight to this problem.

Vista Sp1, e8200@4ghz, 4 ghz of G.skill ram, 280gtx. Nvidia 180.70 drivers.

I'm using the beta drivers 180.84 yet I am still getting missing textures after playing for about 10 minutes.

I have ran driver sweeper through safe mode I have reset rivatuner and updated direct x as well yet textures just seem to go away after about 10 mins of playing.

I can't seem to fix it. :(

After a good play around with both the graphics driver options, and the games options, I've managed to get it playable (i.e above 30FPS at all times) running 1920x1200, Medium Textures, High Rendering, 12 for the draw distance, 12 for the detail distance, and around 30 for both car and shadow density.

Meh, not worth reinstalling all the other crap that comes with it. I hate SP3 too.

You hate SP3? Why?

What have you changed in the driver options? Might be able to improve my performance too.

I'm sure the Shadow Density only goes up to 16?

You're probably right about the shadow desnsity (i'm not at my gaming rig ATM), all I can remember is that the slider was at the same position as the car density one (so I assumed a similar value).

As for changes, well I dropped the mipmap rendering quality to performance, forced vsync off, made sure that AA was FORCED to 2x, and turned on edge detect rather than box. This is on the Cat 8.11 WHQL's btw.

I'm just downloading the 8.12 betas and I'll see how they go!

For some reason it hates my Audigy ZS 2. It will work fine for a few days and then one day I'll turn the comp on to find that all my soundcard settings are all screwed up and cannot be reverted.

Come to mention it, it also screwed firefox up too.

Then again, it might have been the fact I went through a stage of switching my comp off from the plug without waiting for it to shutdown properly.

SP2 works just fine (as far as I'm aware) so there doesn't seem to be any point in changing anything.

Switching it off like that should not break anything and SP3 should not have messed the sound card settings, off problem you have there, was fine on my PC even with FF.

Nice, but don't changing mipmap directly effect in game quality?

I'm sorry but if NV hotfix is giving 10fps more ATi have to do the same thing. If not they fail :(

It makes little or no difference on my system. 2fps in the benchmark and no discernible difference in-game. I think anyone hoping for a driver or patch fix for poor performance is going to be disappointed.

I have an Audigy 2 (the original type) and SP3, and have had no such problems with the soundcard settings or Firefox. AFAIK SP3 makes XP perform better in general than SP2 as well.

Ok, I'll take your word for it. D/Ling now

What about driver issues? I have all the latest drivers etc, do you think there will be any compatibility issues that I'll have to deal with from switching over from SP2-3?

Cheers.

Theres clearly tonnes of room their side for reducing amount of memory in use which is frankly a joke. It plays close to what you'd call utter crap, and in top settings just doesn't look very good.

Is there anything i've missed in terms of config files you can mess with as the one thing i really wanted to be able to do while playing it on the 360, was turn off the damn soft shadows as they looked utter turd, complete waste of power.
