Grand Theft Auto 4

bah errrors in single player after a few minutes of game play. bit epic how they can ship a game with so many bugs

Haven't had a single error or crash now and have been playing it for a number of hours since Friday!

Hopefully it'll continue that way and the performance will improve too as it can only get better as far as I'm concerned :)

me neither last time id checked in my stats ive been playing it for 20hrs so far since last wed the frame rate is about 30ish most ive the time and i can live with that and see what the patch brings, enjoying it though very much loads!!!! :D

@ TheOtherOption and stude1983

Did you both get this via steam or retail? Just curious to see which versions people without problems are running.

Every Pc is different people, chrikey :p

They don't have every Pc in existence to test it on you know

But still, it is quite a widespread problem.

I am on STEAM version, not a single crash or error message, the only issues I have are the graphical glitches and the insane VRAM usage both of which R* say is being fixed by the new patch so I'm holding off playing further until this patch is out!

Sorry to bring back up a boring subject but:
1. How will the game run/look with an 8800GTX, Q6600, 4GB RAM on 1680x1050?
2. Are there any known patches/nvidia hotfixes coming that will bump the performance?
3. Do the online modes work alright?
4. Is the game very modable?

Based on my experience with my dads pc (2GB, 8800GT) seems to run OK on 1680x1050 :)

I can only imagine slightly better performance.

your specs are the same as mine, apart from the gpu i'm using an 8800gts 512mb and it runs ok on medium-high settings, i had to have a play though to get it to run at a reasonable rate.

nvidia have released a hotfix yes, of which i didn't notice much difference with. also a patch is out very soon apparently

haven't tried multiplayer yet so cant really comment but when ive finished sp ill give it a look

Hey guys is there a Gatling gun in this game like there was in San Andreas? We all like the multi-barelled goodness

Bought this today, it wont even install on my computer, what a steaming pile of ****
Yeah sure you did, rofl. You're always moaning about PC gaming and how your PC is so old and won't run stuff as good as the 360 (WAAAAAH), so why would you buy it? I don't believe you one bit.

I'm guessing this is another one of Cheets posts that contains PC bashing with no truth to his statement or reasoning.

Idiot.

You two met before?!

The internet is full of people spouting rubbish, get used to it. Surely it's more mature to let us make our own judgements about someones stupidity rather than you going off topic and flaming them, you don't need to tell us.

Anyway,

Anyone got any inclination of when this patch is surfacing yet? I have no idea how long MS take to process these.

The more people aware of his idiocy the better, he always spouts rubbish in the PC section.

I have the same system exactly, overclocked albeit...

Texture quality 3/4, Render quality 4/4
Mid-range 55/55 View Distance and Detail Distance
Car level doesn't really alter performance, mine's 45... moderate.
Shadows @ 5/6 depending, during certain parts I crank it down.

Get an average 25-30fps I'd say. Not brilliant but it's very playable and the visuals are very acceptable, on a scale of 'GTA IV acceptability' anyway. Enjoi :)

Edit: Fine details of spec in-case you're wondering about minor discrepancies: OC'd EVGA 8800GTX, 4Gb RAM @ ~1000Mhz OC'd, Q6600 currently running @ 3.2Ghz (Uni room is constantly sweltering hot, downtuned it a little in consideration of the Victorian heating system I have to put up with :P)

Purchased a copy today and find it runs better than some doom and gloom merchants suggested, though it’s still far from great. Game is in dire need of AA, although R* claimed in that interview with IGN that they can’t get AA to work with Dx9 due to gfx engine used - so hence they didn’t bother!?!

Windows Live I can handle, however the R* social club rubbish is very annoying, and the amount of time from install to actually been able to play the game takes the absolute ****. That aside I’m seeing steady fps at 1600x1200 and its not crashed on me yet using the 180.84 Drivers for XP, not tried Vista yet.
