Grand Theft Auto 4

I'm not sure whether I miss AA, or whether I'm too used to the disgustingly blurred Vaseline-effect of console GTA IV. The difference is stark though, but I'm slowly warming to the sharp detail of GTA IV... jaggies n all.
 
When has a GTA game NOT had the graphical glitches in though? When has a GTA game EVER run smooth (apart from Vice City on the PC) These are things we learn to live with while playing any GTA game. I'll be honest, i was holding out for the PC ver as I thought the Console versions were too rough. Then i heard the horrors of the pc ver, but still got it anyway... 3 days & 10hrs later I'm well into the game and so far no real problems other than the occasional graphical glitch.. I rarely find a game that can grab 10hrs of my attention in the last 3days... So I'm happy... Yes the frame rate isn't exactly a show case for your pc, but as i said this is a GTA game and for whatever reason (i'm a frame rate freak normally) I just live with it and no longer expect any better.
 
Just to report: I downloaded my demo (cough) and tested it for a while, and there were no problems.

So I uninstalled it, went out and bought the full version, and what can I say? I seem to be one of the lucky few not having any problems at all. Agreed, the framerate is a bit low, but given the amount of detail the game provides, I don't see how a normal PC can be expected to go much higher. I'm quite happy to trade framerate for the content provided, even the jaggies don't disturb me, I even feel they add to the atmosphere.

I'm sorry that so many of you are having problems, and I can only hope that they're resolved soon. There's one hell of an experience waiting, once you can get going.
 
due to the "graphic settings not saving" bug I accidentally played at native resolution and ended up getting more FPS and lower CPU usage than I did at a lower res, its not that much but my native res is 2560*1600 and i had been running it at 1920*1200. WTF is that about ?

Great game though, prolly best this year imho

Im runnin on the rig in my sig, medium textures, high detail, all other sliders at 50 shadows on 6.

20-30fps which compared to other peoples experiences im happy with. The actual game im loving, once i got independence radio set up with my own tunes it made the game great, lve the radio banter inbetween my own tracks too.

Still mucking about on side missions and havin a ball :)

I have to agree with the guy who said its the best game of the year.

I am fing loving it, shame so many people are having proplems with it. After a while you dont notice the lack of aa u just get ingrosed in the game.

For example i find my self only stealing good cars and then keeping them, the 2 cars in the screenshots i have had for awhile, i try look after them and not smash them up :)

Its a shame i was listening to a song on you tube from the gta soundtrack, the Greenskeepers - Vagabond and was reading the commeants and some tit gave away the ending without warning :( kinda spoiled things a bit for me.

Wasnt happy :(

I'm trying to stay away from those sorts of things for exactly the same reason.
 
Regarding AA, apparently AA can only be performed with deferred rendering/lighting under DX10. God knows why they didn't go down that path.
 
I think the thread started when you could get it off steam before the pre-orders delivered so Id guess it has the same system just different delivery method...

EDIT: About page 24 is when it got released on STEAM

not realy if anything it may be more of a pain because you need to be loged into GFW ,rockstar social club and steam

but then again you dont need the disk in your drive to play it on steam

still has the same drm as retail it seems
