Why I hate vista...

I tend to find most people that say XP or Vista sucks either have broken hardware, out of date drivers or just generally fail at using the OS.

O'rly?

Build your PC properly and resolve any hardware issues you might have.

Vista is fine as an OS.

Hmmm.. Maybe I could if I didn't own a laptop..

TBH a bad workman blames his tools, I have installed vista on around 10 systems no problem, I have a few niggly things I don't like about vista. But stability wise and general running it has been perfect on all 10/11 systems i've put put it on. (not all my systems).

So you don't live with the day to day running of it???? :p

Linux is pants really it is, tried Ubuntu not too long ago to get an idea as to what the OS offers and wow it was a major challenge just installing programs, didn’t get along with it at all seemed very rubbish.

You were obviously a novice user :p

Because windows uses the pagefile regardless of ram usage.

That's why I hated vista, kept getting that bsod among others.

Mine BSOD's Outta the box.. I think It happened on the second day of owning.. I hadn't even installed programs or messed with anything at this point in time either..

Nope, much prefer 2007 to be honest. Far easier to use and to find the more advanced options, far nicer to look at, and it has some very nice features (like its references manager which is awesome for essays). 2003 feels clunky and awkward in comparison.

I don't agree.. I find all 2007 apps have more backwards features than fowards ones :p

Such as? Obviously it always comes down to personal preference, but I just struggle to understand why people prefer zillions of menus where the options and useful features were frequently difficult to find. The Ribbon interface, as with all things, takes a bit of getting used to, but it at least makes everything far easier to access.

7 of them yes, the others I have had no complaints from the people who use it on them, except when they download "suspect" files...!

This is across laptops and desktops, personally I hate going back to XP it just feels ugh to me after vista and I don't use a lot of the features Microsoft advertise as bonuses, like the 3d task switcher, barley use, never use the sidebar, disabled first thing after install.

My main complains for Vista are as follows;
File sharing is hit and miss, sometimes it works good sometimes its terrible, XP was bad enough but vista made it worse. Folder view settings do not save to the folders, right clicking on drives/icons/files only brings up the context menu for that item 1/2 the time, the other half it acts as if you right clicked the space around it, same with dragging.

I will add though that none of these installs are used in a strictly business environment and I would not advise anyone to upgrade to vista from XP unless they actually needed to, there's really no advantages for bussines use as far as I can see.

It's a very consumerised product and it works well to that end.

No doubting its capabilities as an OS buts its far far from the mainstream I feel, it doesn’t have a patch on windows for compatibility and ease of use, just seems you need a degree on how to use the thing :p

Which is probably the fault of the manufacturers' drivers, not Microsoft (though it would be nice to be able to recover from BSODs).

Post a recent file from c:\Windows\Minidump when it crashed and I/someone else can tell you the cause- i.e. which driver.

Acer aren't know for their quality laptops ;):D

I'm sorting it out now.. :)

Had some lulz after have a little loading up the event viewer :D

Indeed.. The first time I installed and properly set up a copy (redhat? or mandrake akaik) It was like a celebration in it's self :D

And I doo agree with windows compatibility.. That is it's only down fall like it or not Microsoft exist and like it or not they aren't exactly helping non windoze usr's

I had to switch back after my A-level grades were being jeopardised :(

I understand where BBX is coming from.

The icons and whatnot in Vista are far more cartooney than previous versions of Windows, and much more like the OSX dock.

She's still a daft wotsit though :p

You are sooo going to pay for this on friday!!! :p lol! But yeah that's exactly what I meant ;)

Then you fail, and seem to be stupid.

Google docx, first hit tells you how to do just that.

Docx was created to be more 'sharing'.

If you had bothered to read my subsequent posts, I was at work and therefore unable to download patches or other software.

There is no need to insult me :/

I would never use another OS because it's more of a pain in the proverbial, but those who seem to think Vista is terrible would definitely benefit I think.

/me wonders why I've seen a bluescreen a total of 2 times on any pc i've had in the past 7 years...

Well if you want to use any of the software you own, you don't have much choice. ;)

Quoted for truth, I have only been using Vista for around a month since buying a new laptop but my experience so far has been better than expected, it could do with being a bit faster at times (UAC popping up etc) but apart from that I have no issues.

Still prefer linux for most tasks as I use it and work and get much more done, but thats another thread entirely.
