hi thanks for the prompt reply i bought the game off steam do i need to use the GTA IV icon in the steam files? by using the norestrction is this how you got medium textures using your screen res as when i used 1680 by 1050 a few days back i could use medium textures now i have a new screen using 1920 by 1050 i can only select low?
 
Mate of mine asked me to grab him a copy today whilst I was out xmas shopping, what’s with the price hike from £24.99 that I paid at a certain high street retail store no less than 10 days ago? Coz It now costs £29.99 most places and even £34.99 at the major high street store, first glance I thought it must be some unknown collector’s edition but nope, priced wrong perhaps, wrong again as I had them wand it...
 
I just got round to upgrading my graphics driver to 8.12 today and it looks to have increased the FPS by about 3-5 (not massive i know...but better then nothing) and also the load times have got quicker so i'm happy.:D

But i'm pretty sure the patch has not been auto installed by GFW, so not sure if I should manually install that.

If you add a non steam game shortcut in steam for the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\grand theft auto iv\GTAIV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" and make sure the target looks like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\grand theft auto iv\GTAIV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -norestriction -nop that's all I used :)

Well ok more to the point; I don’t recall say any top PC game(s) receiving a very noticable price hike in previous years, I would guess in the not too distant future pc games will fall in line with console game pricing. :(

Is the game broken or am I doing something incredibly wrong? On the last mission (if you choose the path of "revenge" rather than "deal", without giving too much away), is it actually possible to get onto the chopper? I repeatedly tap "jump" as much as I can without permanently damaging either myself or the keyboard, and it does bugger all. I eventually fall and fail the mission, is that right, or is the game broken?

This is like my 8th attempt now, every time I've failed at that point.

Had the exact same problem, very frustrating :mad:, lots of reports of it online but no solutions.

What I did to solve it was change jump to be a key that's easier to mash (I went for Q) and swapped to a plain PS/2 keyboard instead of my wireless USN one. After a couple of goes hammering the **** out of the jump key I eventually got in and managed the helicopter bit first time, fortunately.

Had to take a break after that as my finger was really sore!

Can anyone link me to the correct version of flash player needed for in game menu (with the videos etc.) It says I need flash player 9+ but i've just installed flash player 10 from adobe :confused:
 
Should work with 10, did you restart your machine after you installed it.

My frame plummetting issue seems to have fixed itself now, so back to running fine, just another problem has cropped up now, after about half an hr or so, the bloody textures etc... start disappearing now.:(

This game is very strange, when im in a skype call my sound starts crackling and I get 1/2 the fps I usually do.

My specs

Intel Pentium D 805
8800gts 320mb
2gb ram

It runs ok (averaging 15-20fps which is playable for me),

Textures: medium
Render quality: high
View distance: 7
Detail distance: 40
Vehicle density: 40
Shadow density: 0

Find it hard to believe it runs okay on that CPU. You are using higher settings than me as well.
 
was going to say, dual core 3.2ghz isnt enough now :O


The 805 overclocked tons, depends how much he has done it. I think at most it was like a stock core duo

Why do you find it hard to believe though? It obviously runs half decently otherwise he'd be moaning :p

I've got the game running at a decent playable rate now, so I'll leave it where it is I think...My cpu is probably letting me down really, poor thing.

On a side note, I just watched Ricky Gervais ingame :p
