Warhammer Age of Reckoning Worth it?

Both WAR and WoW suck monkey balls next to DAoC. DAoC is the best MMORPG there has ever been IMHO. Shame the population has fallen through the floor :(

100% agree. DAOC has by far the most advanced PVP (it actually works!!), and the pve content is massive and fantastic if thats your thing.

Class/Realm balance is at last good too, support is acceptable but not brilliant.

Interestingly the populations on the US servers are on the rise again with a rut of people returning from WAR all saying the same thing..... doesnt play as well as DAoC. The took a lot of DAoC and put it into WAR but it just doesnt seem to work.

Maybe some have jobs?

And traditionally in MMO's, younger players flock to 'good' aligned races, older players play 'evil' races. It's not a hard and fast rule and there are plenty of exceptions, but it's generally what happens. There's a load of psychology mumbo jumbo to explain why this is, all to do with the younger you are, the more you want to play the valiant hero decked out in shining plate, ready to save the girl/world. Older/mature players tend to seek out evil races that seemingly have more dimension/depth to them.

I think thats true of WoW - but not so much of WAR.

One big problem with WAR is that the Orc's and Chaos look infiniately cooler than a slightly camp High Elf or a short fat dwarf. The only saving grace for Order is Empire, which is kinda the middle ground.

Mythic have done a far too good job of the Orc's especially, they look fantastic, and a kitted out Black Orc looks brilliant (and intimidating). Ditto with the Chaos Chosen....hence why you always see a load of them!

So no one really wants to be High Elf or Dwarf, which was a real issue at (pre 1.1) they had the only pure tanks and healers. We seem to be ok on Tanks now (Dwarf Ironbreakers do look decent, decked out) but still lacking healers.

I'm going to re-install and give this another go tonight. Have a 19 Witch Elf on K8P. What are the queues like these days?

No queues anymore, they've upped the caps and introduced server transfers. A lot of people re-rolled to K8P though, so it's one of the busier PvE servers.

Heh. The first character I rolled was a White Lion (I like pet classes). Is it Northrend? I think that's the name of the noobie pvp instance.. anyway, Order was charging up the hill and Dest were coming down, led by 2 Black Orcs. I was leading Order and just about pooped myself at the sight of the two BO's charging forward. Talk about ballsy.

I rolled one because they just looked so damn fierce. Ironbreakers are probably better tanks, but visually they got nothing on a Black Orc. They done a great job with that class. And I just love the whole ow's ya choppa? thing, haha.

Agree with the High Elfs btw, they just look goofy and awkward. Maybe too tall? I dunno. The helmets certainly don't help.

There's something not quite right on the run animation for elves, and in the way they stand, it's like they're bent backwards too much or something.

Well if ever there'd been a candidate for a dark, gritty MMO, it was Warhammer. But WoW has ensured we won't be seeing one of those for years to come.

Its a crap game, dont bother, played it for a month and it feels really dead, hardly anyone going about either and no one talks to eachother not helped by the fact that I dont know anyone in real life or online that plays it, so it might be different if you do.
About the graphics I prefer them in WoW more, better style, WAR was designed to look realalistic which will look crap in a few years when WoW wasnt ever meant to, so its age wont show as much

You can't be serious.

WAR does not look realistic, not by any stretch of the imagination. And it was never designed to look realistic. It's look comes from the Warhammer pen and paper rpg universe, has been around for some 20 odd years and it's /heavily/ stylised. Blizzard totally ripped off it's style for their series of Warcraft games.

How you can say WAR looks realistic while at the same time say WoW has a more enduring look is, frankly, laughable.

^^ Agreed Spirity, although I'm not a great fan of either - I prefered how Dark Age of Camelot looked, they only needed to update the graphics engine.

Is the LOTRO community really that good? Tempted to have another look if it's still alive and kicking. Struggled to get into it when it initially came out but I won lifetime subs to the game in an online competition so it seems a waste not to use it !!

Got to admit although I like the graphics on Warhammer, it doesn't play as well as DAOC in many respects, although if they could transplanty bits of Warhammer into DAOC they'd have a killer game.

Thing to remember with DAOC is the graphics run smooth partly due to it's age, Warhammer is a bit more taxing.

Failhammer

Looks, Plays, Feels and knows its second best to World of Warcraft.

People will however defend what they like, the people in here like Failhammer more then Warcraft.

I advise you play war for the evaluation month by then you will probably be bored of it anyway and your decision is made

Its fun for a while but the grind becomes very evident around the lvl 30's,
lack of community and watered down communication channels make grouping outside your guild pretty sparse unless you /who and then mass private message people to see if they are interested (a bit like the old daoc days)
no one seems to use the in-built grouping system because it doesnt let you vet who joins the group (its either public or private)

The pve isnt really worth doing past the big dungeons and player quests and battleground grinding gets pretty dull after a while

Despite what people pretend, there is no real concequence which makes you go defend/attack keeps other than the lord reward bags which are stupid because of Mythic's quickfix on the looting mechanism (you get given a arbitrary number when you enter the zone so your contribution is meaningless) unless this has been repaired by now.
Capital cities are broken so no one can take them (again unsure if this has been fixed yet), and most fights tend to be a destruction steamroll when there are people to fight (Karak eight peaks), and a order steamroll in the wee hrs when no one is really left to defend on the destro side.
PVE is fantastic in the lower levels but gets dull and monotomous in the higher levels (35-40) and 30-35 is a tedious grind because of endless knockbacks (you get thrown across the screen to varying degrees) if you are a tank so i suggest you dont pick one as even support characters have the ability.

The controls are ok but the targetting is awful, the interface is as you would expect so good enough with minor niggles like broken refresh timers and such but that is no doubt going to be patched out

Which is second best to Dark age of camelot, which is forever second best to Ultima Online.

Each to their own opinions :p

Yeah, and you're welcome to them.

But the 11 and a half million people who play World of Warcraft suggest it is second to none :)

A large audience is no way to gauge the quality of a product. Think of MacDonalds, Katy Perry and The Sims 2.

Your statement is meaningless, and exudes fail.
