Grand Theft Auto 4

Seriously now, has ANYONE completed "out of commission" (the last mission if you chose "revenge")?

It still won't let me climb into the ******* chopper. and now i'm down one mouse as I actually broke it hitting the button about 4 million times in a minute.

FFS.

Had the exact same problem, very frustrating , lots of reports of it online but no solutions.

What I did to solve it was change jump to be a key that's easier to mash (I went for Q) and swapped to a plain PS/2 keyboard instead of my wireless USB one. After a couple of goes hammering the **** out of the jump key I eventually got in and managed the helicopter bit first time, fortunately.

Had to take a break after that as my finger was really sore!

Tried any of that? I know how annoying it was, I broke my keyboard support as well.

God damn it i just started the ****

should have stuck with Nvidia mate :) or

Its pay back time for bashing NV all the time :D

Anyone got any tips for "Catch The Wave" (fairly late on in the game)?

I've tried every strategy possible to get Phil Bell through the boathouse but it either ends up with him getting killed or myself. There are multiple antagonists at various heights and I'm half convinced some are respawning or impervious to damage. They are nearly all armed with assault rifles so your armour is gone in seconds. The usual "cover, clear, advance" doesn't work as at some point the guy you're protecting just cuts and runs and you *must* follow so either he gets shot down or you do.

After all that there is (apparently, according to the Brady Guide) a boat chase still to come.

What makes it even more frustrating is a long drive involving two vehicles from the point where you collect the mission to where you start. The "Replay Mission" feature is all very well but it should put you back at the start of the action with your original armour & weapons etc.

This is the first mission I have really got stuck on so I guess it's not too bad, but if anyone can help - all offers welcome.

Yep, as I said in an earlier post, I changed it to space (multi hand whapping for the win), and this made no difference.

I'm on a wired USB keyboard (don't have any PS2 ones).

No more issues for me, I now only wish for FSAA support and I'll have a game that runs great and looks great at high settings!

What is the reason given?

I have loads of those XLive instances in my Event Viewer with a warning as well. It says Live Logon Failed. If it isn't causing you problems I wouldn't worry about it.

Yup, showing up as Live Logon Failed

You sir are very helpful.. have yourself an E-Cookie :D

If they don't get a performance patch out I wish for Rockstar to drop off the face of the earth.

What did they expect? A game that ONLY runs on proper gaming rigs is not going to get sales.

^^ they WILL use this as an excuse to stop making any kind of decent games for the PC, and certainly won't bother making a decent port.

So you guys should seriously not be happy with the poor sales.

PC Sales explained, not half as bad as some reports are making:

I know a lot of PC gamers are eagerly awaiting news on how well GTA 4 is selling on the PC. Unfortunately according to the latest NPD weekly charts not all that well in the US. It appears that GTA 4 in the US has only debuted at number 7 in the charts :-:

1. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - Blizzard

2. Spore - EA Maxis

3. The Sims 2 Deluxe - EA Maxis

4. Call Of Duty: World At War - Treyarch

5. Fallout 3 - Bethesda

6. The Sims 2 Apartment Life Exp. Pack - EA Maxis

7. Grand Theft Auto IV - Rockstar Games

8. Left 4 Dead - Valve

9. Far Cry 2 - Ubisoft Montreal

10. The Sims 2 Mansion & Garden Stuff Exp. - EA Maxis

It is important to remember that this is for the US only and does not include sales made from other channels such as steam or D2D

UPDATE :- Some more charts are trickling in here GTA 4 for the PC is Number 3 in the steam charts only beaten by the Almighty Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2 (which is currently available for $10). So a pretty strong presence from GTA 4 on steam. Then we just need to look at the D2D charts and GTA 4 is Numero Uno, that's right it is Number One on D2D. This is inspite of it being a fairly hefty download (14gbs) and it is yet a further indication of the direction that the PC market is heading. So not all doom and gloom as the NPD would indicate. Many thanks to Adriaan at grandtheftauto.ign.com for finding these updated charts.

I've just found out that you can't tow the trailers with the lorries, seriously now.. WTF.

You could do it in San Andreas

Just bought GTA IV on steam (starting to regret it..) downloaded then installed and I get the following message.

GTA IV FATAL ERROR: RMN40 - GTA IV FATAL ERROR: Windows XP: Need to have Service Pack 3 or higher to proceed

Very nice of the game, but I'm using Vista :o

3 thumbs up for dumb coders.

lol unlucky there - I am amazed at the number and variety of errors and such that this game seems to throw up for some people - my only issue with it at the moment is getting 1920*1200 as I just got a 24" screen yesterday :)

A quick google suggests that getting this error in Vista means you need to get the dot net framework 3.5.
