Any opinions on o2 broadband?

Awesome service so far.

AOHell went off yesterday morning ( bye,bye.....!!! ) got text from o2 about 30 mins later, plugged router in, back online.

Used to get @6Mb d/l with AOHell on a good day, now getting this speed no matter what time of day it is:-

Laptop linked in via wireless connection is downloading at @12Mb.

Awesome.

Only thing I'm not liking so far is their homepage and checking o2 webmail via it, not that easy to find for a newcomer so set up my email addresses in Outlook or check via mail2web instead.

Other than that minor gripe, chuffed to bits so far.

as per bobbyboy's link, i've recently had the same problem, called o2 and they said my exchange is due to be upgraded around jan 11th

, so might be worth giving them a call see if you're exchange is set for an upgrade.

I have been having connection issues recently, but it seems to have sorted itself out a bit. O2 said upgrades to some exchanges meant re-routing at peak times, and so drop in speed.

You're never going to get 19Mbps with that SNR margin and attenuation. It seems a little low, but if that's all your line's good for...

Ah okay, it says the exchange is enabled with the LLU and their speed test says up to 19MB, so I just wait then?

as tolien has said there is no way you will achieve 19mb with your snr & line attenuation. I only get 16mb with a 31 line attenuation on an 6db noise profile, good luck in hoping it is xmas

That doesn't mean your line's good enough for 19Mbps though. Don't hold your breath waiting, or you'll end up like a Smurf.

The 'speed test' is based on an estimate given to O2 by BT based on where you are. It does say estimate to be fair.

Are you on Annex A or Annex M ? You can switch to Annex A and improve download speed at a cost of some upload speed by using the following CLI command on a speedtouch 585 router

adsl debug multimode config=g992.5_AnnexA

You can switch back to Annex M by replacing A with M in the above command.

DO NOT attempt this if your line does not have Annex M enabled. I believe only the Pro package has Annex M enabled (going by the statement that upload speeds upto 2.5mbps are available).

I used the friends and family deal to get onto the Ultimate package but switched to Annex A and improved download speed from 12.5->14mbps and upload went from 1.65->1.3mbps.

edit: It seems o2 have renamed their packages and offer a new router for the newly named Pro package. So don't know how this affects the above information.
