Any opinions on o2 broadband?

Bear in mind that your mileage may vary with the 2800VG. I seem to recall it's a bit...special on ADSL2+.
Any details most welcome. I wouldn't be surprised if at the very least I have to flash it (with the obvious danger that entails - I almost killed my old 2600 doing that).

I seem to remember you need the INP setting on your line set to 1, default is 2. Otherwise it won't sync above 7-8meg. I think only Be will change this for you, doubt O2 will. Fastpath may also do the same job as changing INP.

Even with all the correct settings you probably won't sync as high as you would with a modem with a Broadcom chip, e.g Netgear DG834GT

I've been using my new o2 line for a while now and whilst the download and upload speed seems it sometimes seems to drop the connection and I can't access web pages for 20+ seconds. I've noticed in my router settings the speed seems to change every now and then from 13mb to 11mb, does this look like it's struggling to stay at the higher speed and synching again at the lower speed? If so, then why does it eventually sync back at 13mb?

I'm using the netgear DG834G router.

im getting the exact same issues as you furton, its not a huge problem for me buts still weird and better if i know why its doing it. im using the o2 router :(... i tried my other router today (linksys wag354g) and it seems to sync at much lower speeds so im stuck with o2 one for now.... is there a much better router out there for me to get higher speeds, or at least same as the o2 router but without all the restrictions :p

Are you saying it won't sync at all or it'll just stall at 8Mbps. As long as it connects, then while annoying, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Is there anywhere I can get advice about this before attempting to jump ship?

As much as I could just about live with a DG834, my Draytek powers my second VoIP phone. Although I now use Skype most of the time I still keep the VoIP online, so a straight swap wouldn't be an option.

Thanks.

It will sync, it just won't connect above 7-8meg without changing the INP setting. I had the same issue with a Billion router when I was with Be and they were quite happy to change the INP.

There is some information here from Draytek:

For about the last month or so I have been getting some poor ping times in the evening.

Normally I get about 25-40 to most CoD4 servers in the UK, then suddenly around 7-9pm the ping (on same servers) will go to 100-110.

Anyone know what could be causing this? It's not someone else on the network...and my download speeds seem fine. (1.3-1.6mb/sec)

Another problem.

Finding I can't play TF2.

Get the problem with your connection message with red writing in the corner.

Any ideas?

Warning connection error?

this is a pain in the backside & you just need to configure the router for games your playing ie steam based games mainly. Simply you can just use a better router & this will stop this problem, you can play without hassle then.

dg834gt will do it and they can be found cheaply, btw i have this issue when I use my supplied router (its rubbish anyway).
