After getting such good performance to begin with, i'm now getting increasingly worse from when I start the game to a few hours after, with lots of mini-freezes. This happens when using -availablevidmem 1.5 AND when using settings within my mem budget. Interestingly, I get better and more consistent FPS when fooling gta into thinking I have a 512mb card and upping the settings!

This freezing sounds like the memory leak problem to me, anyone else have this and any possible fix?

sorry i tried to make it as non-spoilerish as possible. If you have even chosen *** destiny of one person, its kind of obvious it will happen with the other main characters. Although there was one part where i wanted a choice but wasn't given it, was kind of upset by that :p And no, i take my laptop with me. It is good enough for cod4, bf2, and valve games, so it is good, however i need to run gta4 on low settings. imo it is still playable, but it is nowhere near as nice as what my 4850 spits out :p

yer i installed the new drivers, then i had issues with it hanging on loading screens :/ i reverted and all is fine again, and hopfully it stays that way, touch wood!
 
Been loving this, despite the ropey performance. 16 hours of gameplay out of me so far. My framerate is usually around 30 or so but occassionally dips to around 20 at night/in the rain. It's far from ideal but still very much playable.

I'll probably have finished the game by the time any second patch comes out to boost performance (if such a thing ever happens).

heh, you're right, that's ok, I was being an arse!

Can't believe there's still no word from R* about a second patch, there are so many performance issues here. I've just started to get the one where the textures on the road just dont appear :mad:

Gonna fiddle with the settings some more. I seem to get 20 to 35 fps with any settings atm (at the same res).

I ended up reinstalling windows after my "RSGC Error" .. oh joy, but never mind.

I decided to have a 20 min blast at peeing off the police.. shot some people, shot the police men in their car who came for me :eek:.. went for a hoon, managed to steal the big black swat team van thingy then off to Dimitris old boss's hangout and nicked his ferrari thingy. Went racing down the main road area, got onto a bridge where the swat team were waiting with guns.. aimed to ram the back of the van to get past...

**BANG** ooohhh... watch that police man fly!! , "Oh.. no.. thats me, i've just gone through the windscreen" :D then some tool in a police car came the other way and ran me over.. Great fun, when it works ;)

Can't wait for my HD4870 to arrive from france.. should make the playing experiance a whole lot better.
 
lol you got gta 4 in one there mate, just hilaouoirs fun. the missions are prety sweet as well. gta frachise are the best games ont eh market as far as im concerened lol happy new year in pisdsed woooho

p.s. that was left in my browser window before i went to bed lol. i'm not ****** anymore, just hunover, woo :/

If that RGSC.exe is crashing your game just kill it.

Load the game as normal and log in as you do, then before you hit start game to play, just CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the Task Manager, then look for the RGSC.exe process and end it, then just go back to the game and play.
 
Hi pal, nah.. the problem was that RGSC would crash before you could login!

Therefore the game wouldn't load :o

A steam only issue mebe?
 
So have most of the issues been sorted yet? Just played this on my mates PS3 and it is fantastic! I want it for my PC but was worried about the issues that had been reported.

Any performance issues with an 8800GTS, 2GB RAM, C2D 6300 @ 3GHz?

I've got an 8800GTS(G92) and 2gb of ram, with an X2 4400, and the game runs pretty well, so it will run a tad bit better on yours no doubt due to your core2.

Settings will be medium/high to maintain a decent playable framrate though really.

So it should look similar to the PS3 version then? Just ordered it so ill see for myself in a few days! ;)

Thanks for posting that, needed some confirmation on these rumours! What were the two drivers used for your card? I see the ver is different but are you able to use official cats for win 7?

Also, was the game more playable/less stuttery? I seem to have a stuttering problem emerging now, that wasn't there a week ago! I'm on nv tho.
 
Both Drivers were 8.12, one was Vista one was for Windows 7. The game itself seemed the same really not a lot of difference at those rates. It was a swine to install though, had to manually mess around a bit. Off topic, but Windows 7 seems like it should simply be a theme for Vista, well so far.
 
So is it being fixed or not? Am thinking about getting this game 2nd hand on pc, although I do now have a 360 so could get it on that, what do ya think?
 
It's definitely a lot better on PC, but depending on your rig, and a bit of luck it seems, you might end up with serious issues. There are issues that almost everyone has, but i'd be suprised if R* left it as-is. It'd be a serious dent in their reputation, I know I wouldn't bother with any more of their games if I knew there were bugs and no support.
 
just ordered this off steam and so i dont have to go through 116 pages of stuff.

Is there anything i need to know or any tips for graphics settings for my system.
 
Well we're talking e8400, 4gb and a 4850 at 1680x1050 but soon to be 1440x900, I don't lose out on registering stuff and the like if I buy it second hand right?
 
@Carrot.....

I'm running it on the rig in my sig below and it's running really well. Apart from the odd graphical glitch here and there which doesn't really happen that often, it's been very playable indeed and way better than the 360 version ( which I have played already ).

It seems like a bit of a lottery as far as the way this game runs. I see folk posting in this thread complaining about frame rates, graphics etc that have much better system than me, yet I'm happy with the way everything is!!!.

Guess a lot of it depends on yer expectations.
