Windows 7 beta - 9th January

I'm curious based on some of the questions asked in this thread so far as to how some of you can even remotely believe you will be effective beta testers... oh, sorry, you never intended being a beta tester did you?

Im beta testing using Windows 7 on a macintosh...not going so well so far as you can see from the above posts... :p

Cant even download it!!!

Really impressed with how well it's set up all my hardware on the 64bit, only required minimal drivers, it already had all my wireless drivers. It feels al ot less cluttered than Vista which is a big plus in my opinion as I couldn't get along with it. Really like it so far :)

I'll try FFDSHOW for you neil.

Lost both DVD drives. Sony DVD Rom & Sony Opiarc RW. Anyone else?

Edit: Both SATA Drives Windows reports driver installed. Hope I don't have to buy new drives.

Anyone who plays battlfield 2 or any other other games that use punkbuster could have problems.
Due to punkbuster wont support wndows seven and evenbalance dont want to support it until it is official out. Boo!!!
There is a petition asking for evenbalance to provide support but i cant see it happening, but you never know.

One (almost) interesting thing I found - when I last installed XP, it was very fragmented once installed and required a full defragment from O&O to sort it. This install of 7 wasn't very fragmented at all (less than 2%). Dumb luck, or did MS actually fix something? :)

XP actually copied files to the hdd and then installed them by running the .exe files etc. Vista and 7 both simply copy a 'ghosted' disc image from the DVD straight onto the drive :)

Has anyone else found that the recycle bin confirmation dialogue doesn't actually turn off even though that option is selected in its properties? It also pops under instead of up, so you have to alt-tab to find it when you're emptying it. Turning it back on in options doesn't fix it either. And yes, before anyone asks I've told MS about it (and lots of other things too!) :)

Not sure if anyone has seen this but the keys which seem to be handed out by Microsoft are the same, here is a small list of the keys doing the rounds:

32Bit:

4HJRK-X6Q28-HWRFY-WDYHJ-K8HDH
QXV7B-K78W2-QGPR6-9FWH9-KGMM7
6JKV2-QPB8H-RQ893-FW7TM-PBJ73
GG4MQ-MGK72-HVXFW-KHCRF-KW6KY
TQ32R-WFBDM-GFHD2-QGVMH-3P9GC

64Bit:

D9RHV-JG8XC-C77H2-3YF6D-RYRJ9
482XP-6J9WR-4JXT3-VBPP6-FQF4M
RFFTV-J6K7W-MHBQJ-XYMMJ-Q8DCH
7XRCQ-RPY28-YY9P8-R6HD8-84GH3
JYDV8-H8VXG-74RPT-6BJPB-X42V4

I checked and I got 2 on this list, so this would indicate the keys would not be unique to the first 2.5 million. Aslo why would MS not give out unique keys?

Your thoughts?

Cob, the one I'm actually using for this x64 install had no results on Google. But I tried the others for kicks and they are ALL listed. So it seems the one I'm using is an odd one out lol So yes, it seems MS are either recycling keys, or someone somewhere has a pretty damn accurate keygen lol

COD WAW works fine with punkbuster here. I installed the one off the site first.

Just waiting for the Creative drivers to download off their uber slow server and then I will have all the drivers I require for my 64bit edition :)

So what? MS release just a few keys that they know will end up all over the internet anyway, and dont make to much of a fuss about the ISOs being on torrent sites.

Why would they? Idealy they would like everyone with a computer beta testing their software. TBH, dont know why the bothered with keys, should have just released it as a time limited install with no CD key and had everyone and his pet testing it. Atleast they might get some decent feedback, seen as 99% of people who have this will instal it, moan it doesnt work, and then not use it. They want as many people as possible to be in that 1% that do provide feedback.
