Windows 7 beta - 9th January

Guys, when I browse 'Games' from the Start menu my system slows right down and eventually hangs? Games is the only folder in the menu that seems to do this, the others are fine :(

I'm running it in VMWare. Any ideas?

It is definatly the OS, im not running it in VMWare and get the same problem :S

Extra themes there incase you missed them.

Also how to unlock the "hidden" themes:

1. Go to \Windows\winsxs Directory
2. Search for *.theme.
winsxs-themes.jpg

3. Double click themes with name in the format of XX to apply and save the theme

# I Want My Quick Launch Toolbar Back! You might have noticed that the old faithful Quick Launch toolbar is not only disabled by default in Windows 7, it’s actually missing from the list of toolbars. As is probably obvious, the concept of having a set of pinned shortcut icons is now integrated directly into the new taskbar. Based on early user interface testing, we think that the vast majority of users out there (i.e. not the kind of folk who read this blog, with the exception of my mother) will be quite happy with the new model, but if you’re after the retro behavior, you’ll be pleased to know that the old shortcuts are all still there. To re-enable it, do the following:

* Right-click the taskbar, choose Toolbars / New Toolbar
* In the folder selection dialog, enter the following string and hit OK:
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
* Turn off the “lock the taskbar” setting, and right-click on the divider. Make sure that “Show text” and “Show title” are disabled and the view is set to “small icons”.
* Use the dividers to rearrange the toolbar ordering to choice, and then lock the taskbar again.

yup to both of those, mine turned back on around 10 mins after hibernating.
went through all the power settings making sure any wake up settings were off but it still happened.

Just a quick question, does this install over the current install of windows?

Can do, best not really. Dual boot and do a clean install, you choose this from the install. Does not really sound like you should be installing this. You know what Beta software can mean don't you?

esets beta. working fine for me. same for their AV

is it free ?

What's wrong with using the built-in firewall?

as glorious as the new one is, id still prefer zone alarm and comodo i feel abit more trust worthy to them, until it proves itself by the end of the beta

Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 working fine here too.

is that the prototype one they recently released, it asked me to register for that one didnt bother to see if it was free or not lol :S?

side note i wonder what the stats are for ocuk in windows 7 users visiting the site ?

It's just the bog standard KIS2009 from their site. It's not free, no, but it's only around £15 for licenses for 3 computers for a year (OEM @ OcUK), and they do a trial. Normally I just use Avira AntiVir Premium but the web-guard is causing conflicts in 7.
