Big Chef, Little chef..

Which would you prefer to pay for the microwaved Scrambled egg, Scrambled egg from a pan or Boiled egg they're trying to fob off as scrambled egg?

The scrambled egg from a pan, obviously. But if I'm going into a Little Chef then that's not what I'm going to expect. I'm not going to wait for the extra time it adds to each order of scambled egg, I'm not going to want to pay for the price increase it'd add and I'm not going to want to eat the dry flakes of egg that will undoubtedly be served.

Thought Heston's two side kick chefs were a bit up their own arses.

I thought both the MD and Heston were after different things, but both were wrong. Cut down the menu (60+ dishes?!), increase the quality of food (less items on menu means you can save money by bulk buying) and remember who are your customers (i.e. no lambs tongue etc).

I would never expect to go to a place who microwaves a scrambled egg. Pan fried is an absolute minimum.

Totally agreed. Having such a big menu doesn't help anyone.

Can't really take credit, it's what Ramsey does most weeks on Kitchen Nightmares :} It also allows for the food to be cooked better (if chicken accounts for 1/4 of your dishes and you know rough customer numbers at time of day, you can have a few on the go and not have much waste).

Where would you boil said bag? We had microwave-in-a-bag scrambled egg, it was lovely in a naan bread.

They had a water bath (though why I'm not sure?). The scrambled egg that came out of the bag looked a lot nicer than the lump of rubber egg that came out of the microwave.

TBH the first thing I'd buy if there wasn't one if i was running any restraunt would be a hob the fact that little chef's have no hob is probably one of their biggest flaws and they should rectify it

Problem is, Little Chef doesn't have much money, and re-fitting all their kitchens would cost one hell of a lot. Cheaper to re-jig the menu accordingly.

Can I also partake in a similar mission as I've not been to wimpey for ages! I Know where two are however!

Your nearest one is probably Marlow, they closed the one in Maidenhead bowling alley and it's just a generic burger bar now.

Like malc I always have a Wimpy if I'm near one, after every single home QPR match I take a detour from Ealing to West Ealing on my way home to Burnham to have one. It's an amazing place there, like a time capsule. 'Best Restaurant 1993' certificates on the wall etc. It's so clean in there though.

The one in Marlow has had a complete facelift and looks much more modern, still great though.

I remember a couple of years back they renamed the bender to a 'frankfurter in a bun' and the halfpounder a 'double decker', but that didn't last long. They still have a poster with it called those names in the W. Ealing one.

Saying "I would never expect to go to a place who microwaves a scrambled egg" is going a bit far. As long as the rest of the breakfast was good then I'll take the eggs over-easy.

Pan fried scrambled eggs is foul and only results in either a flaked omlette or a rubbery brick. Proper scrambled egg should be cooked softly in a saucepan.

To add, my missus took me to the Hind's Head for my birthday in December and it was extremely disappointing, from the service to the actual food. I had a cottage pie type thing and it was tiny. We waited 15 minutes before being asked if we wanted even a drink.

Although I've heard other people say it's normally ok.

Yes I have also eaten at the Fat Duck (I live round the corner from both) and both times I went to his restraunts I hated the food 1/2 of it was tastless and the other half was full of flavor not the good kind though. In fact at the Fat Duck the food was so bad I actually refused to pay t'was a terrible evening. I'd recommend going to the Belgian arms on the green in Holyport and the Sun & Stars Pub near Stud Green if you want GOOD( not famous but good) food near Bray

Fair enough - fat duck was by far the best meal i've eaten last year, and i'm by no means always blown away by places. I'm shocked that you felt some of the dishes were tasteless though. What did they say when you refused to pay? Did you go ALC or tasting?
