-== OcUK Extreme GeForce GTX 280 Amazing Deal! ==-

will have to use an adapter since I don't have an 8pin plug but my toughpower 750W has handled CF 4870s so it should have no probs with a 280 GTX

Phew, quite glad the price shot up and the stock has nearly sold out; was very tempted but not quite prepared to splash out £400-450 on a pair of GeForce GTX 280s to replace my 8800 GTXs....most games still run very smoothly with them.

Gonna wait and see what the GT300's bring towards the end of the year or maybe get a GTX 295 if the price drops with the nVidia's half-way through the year offerings.

Was so so tempted also to buy this. But if i was going to order them i would have taken 2. As i all ready have crossfire 4850 and my crossfire set up is better then one GTX280. It would have been a downgrade.

Still i did not know that OCUK brand ment it could be any of the big brand video cards. A bit like a lucky dip you dont know what your getting. That made this deal even better. Just as well i did not know that also cause then the temptation would have been more.

Just short the last two pins both to 0v, the 8pin connector offers no more cores back to the PSU! And they dont even beef up the exsisting cores so complete boll**ks about it's needed for more current!! Could have easily been tracked on the PCB, my guess is it's an industry thing to try and make you at least rethink your power requirements at best, but maybe im being too naive
Still worried? Then ask the guys that have bought adaptors as to what they got at the 8 pin end agaisnt what happens back at the PSU end! pmsl

Yeah he's right the two extra pins are just ground. Bit of a con by PSU manufacturers and video card manufacturers.
You can get two 6 pin to one 8 pin adaptors if you look. I had one before and it worked fine. Used it with my HX620 as it was an old version which just had 6 pin PCIE. However if you ask Corsair they will send you an 8 pin lead free of charge, just go on there webpage and look in support or in the forums it tells you who to email.

Not really a con. The extra two pins indicate the PSU can supply 150W via that connector instead of the standard 75W.

It's a way of ensuring a supply and cabling isn't operated over it's specification.

I think my Crosair 650 has 2 6+2 pin connectors so i should be fine, although SLI or crossfire i would probably need a more power hungry PSU :)
