Best FPS ever?

Can you please show me where Sony have said that KZ2 will be the best game ever? Much of the press and people with review copies have said its one of the best FPS ever though. Are we not allowed to suggest an upcoming PS3 game may be one of the best FPS games judging on what we have read, watched and in certain peoples cases played, in case we are judged to be a "fanboy"?

One thing has anyone ever played Black? Never played it myself but have heard good things about it.

Hmmmmm, tough one, I'd like to say Goldeneye, but that was so long ago, I think the rose tinted glasses might cloud the memories of it.

Have to go with BF2 on PC - I have so many good memories of that game, if it weren't for the fact I've turned into a lazy console gamer, I'd jump back into it right now :D

For single player would have to be Doom, loved that when I 1st played it, online multiplayer COD4, great game even with the lag & "host ended game" error's & for 4 people sitting round a tv can only be Goldeneye. Might be over 10 years since it came out but the playability is still there, awesome game.
 
I played Counterstrike a lot in my younger days (before the Source version(s)). First game I played where team work and communication stood out.

My favourite/s over the years has been HLDM and CS. Man i have sunk so many hours into both of those games! Used to love bouncing about HLDM maps with crossbow and gauss cannon :D

Nowadays COD4 has been excellent and Resistance 2 has been above-par - more so to do with the online co-op mode - Im also eagerly awaiting KZ2.
 
I don't know which is my favourite. In general, FPSs frustrate me. But some that I enjoy(ed) the most are:
TimeSplitters 2
CSS
Call of Duty 1
MGS4 (....what? :p you can play it in first person)
Half Life 2 + Episodes
Gears of War
FEAR

I think I will give some props to Halo 1/2 multiplayer as well. I only played it a few times with mates on system link but it was damn good fun.

I think the time these games came out should be taken into consideration. GE moved the genre forward further than any other fps I can think - including Doom!
 
BF1942 + Desert Combat mod was my favourite on the PC, hardly any players now though.

On console it'd have to be BF Bad Company, preferred it over COD4 due to the vehicles.
 
Doom 1 - Was a real jump into 3D graphics
Soldier of Fortune 2 - My first crack at online gaming, absolutely stunning MP. Great community
Half-Life 2 - fantastic modern game, excellent gameplay, brilliant script and storyline.
Call of Duty 1 - Fantastic level, and superb sound.
Counter Strike Source - got better after 2-3 years of updates, pretty solid fps now
Team Fortress 2 - epic game, good balance of fun gameplay and tactical team strategy
BF2 - Good effort at epic 64 player war battles. Should be ace with 128 players and larger levels.
 
Used to be GOW1 for that feeling when you pop someones head off :) It's a shame that recent beta version of GOW is rubbish.... but nowdays its COD4.

PC wise its CS:S.

Killzone looks amazing, will probably be the best looking console fps ever released and I can't wait but to suggest it in a best fps ever discussion before playing it just means one has jumped aboard the hype train. I'm happy to discuss it as the best fps ever but let's at least all wait till we've played it.

I spent £800+ on my PC prior to Doom 3 and despite the fact it looked great it certainly wasn't a contender for the best fps evar.
