Never filled up a car yet, quick question.

It will stop on its own.

You'll also find with that car that it stops if you try squeeze the trigger all the way.

Turning the nozzle clockwise by 120 degrees clockwise helps alleviate this.

It does. You don't need to think about what happens if it doesn't, becuase it does.

I've had one not before. Looked like I'd ***'d myself, until you smelt the petrol. Worst part is I still had to pay for the fuel in my trousers.

Oh well, guess you'll have to start carrying a block of wood with you, or maybe you could use an old mobile phone (with no battery) for that purpose and time how long it takes someone to notice and go mental.

punto's are a pain in the arse to put petrol in, have to trickle it in or it clicks off, takes about 5 minutes to put in a tank, and when its the middle of winter its bloody freezing.

the other week actually, was putting petrol in and my mate asked me the same question the OP asked, he didnt understand why i put a random 35.76 or something in.

am i the only one that squeezes as much petrol as possible in? i go past a good few clicks until it wont let me put anymore in at all, so i completely fill it up, dunno why.

Many moons ago a barmaid i knew lost her fuel cap ("it must have been stolen", no you cabbage you left it on the fuel pump) and fitted one of the (at the time) new temporary fuel caps which never seemed to seal properly (the plain push fit without the securing screw down the middle of it)

She complained tha car always stank of petrol and i looked all over and couldn't find any signs of leakage until i saw her on a roundabout a few days later and the cornering force was enough for the petrol to flow up the spout and out around the fuel cap! She must have been keeping the tank topped off thinking it was leaking out somewhere (female logic i suppose)

Don't kid yourself. ;)

I have lost count of the times I've been sprayed with fuel (Diesel or Petrol) when the cut out had a fail moment.

One of the purposes of you holding the pump while filling is to give an earth to prevent static electricity discharging (moving liquids especially petrols build up static electricity) and igniting fuel.

I thought you were going to scrap it the other day?

My mate showed her brother my MOT fail sheet and he said he would do it for £250 including his fee so i let him, its all fixed now, pretty much shouild be ready this weekend. Hes done all the major stuff but it failed the MOT on sat due to Headlamp allignment and Catalyst which was due a change anyway, hes tweaking both to save me more money :D

Did your instructor not cover basic things like filling up the car?!

Nope..

My mate got dowsed in petrol on out way to fishing, half 5 in the mornin at Tesco shouting across the forecourt "ffs are you ****ing me!!!" was one of the funniest moments of my life, it was so funny it was unreal, wasted like 40p petrol down himself..

Does anyone remember when pumps used to have a clip/latch on them to hold the lever in place and fill the car whilst you stood and spoke to your mate whilst smoking a cigarette?

Never seen one in the short time Ive been driving which is annoying when filling up on a cold forecourt with a slow pump. I seem to remember someone one here mentioning a keyring or something that was specifically designed for jamming the pump handle. Me wants :(
