Grand Theft Auto 4

Whats the state of multiplayer like on the PC. On the xbox it was really really poor, all servers had the same settings, autoaim on, nametags and dots on map always on. It was a case of chase the dot and then hold down autoaim and fire.

I think that autoaim for the PC should always be off, and that dots should not show up on short range, that way you wont get to seperated but you will have to tread carefully and acctually aim, use cover etc when hunting someone down.

Should be picking it up tomorrow if that morrisons offer is still on.

Thats what I usually have my settings at if I'm in charge.

So then, what were people's favourite missions?

Personally I thought the bank heist was great, typical rockstar nod towards a movie (Heat) and is intense without it ever feeling hopeless (i.e. numerous but limited baddies rather than some stupid infinite spawning thing). Good mix of epic gun battles, teammates offering support and a bit of getaway driving to boot.

Some of the missions were a bit stupid, you could complete them in like 1-2mins. I.e. there's some assassin mission where you have to take out this dude on a boat, you drive to the coast and it tells you to find a way of getting out there (i.e. take the conveniently beached powerboat). Yet from the beach you can just about make out the guys head as the boat bobs in the water, so you can kill him with one shot from the sniper rifle without putting yourself in any danger whatsoever.

One more annoyance I forgot to mention - in some of the road chases, the baddies are INVINCIBLE. There's this one where you are chasing two bikers (on a bike yourself), you go through a train tunnel and can kill one of the bikers but the other guy, heh. I must have emptied at least 3 SMG clips into him (blood showing), plus I tried to shoot out his tyres. It's kinda annoying in a freeform game that they put stupid things like that in to force you to play out a long chase before you 'do battle' with them.

A lot of the chases were scripted, which imo has both good and bad sides to it.

It made for some great set pieces, some of which were very movie-like. If all the chases were freeform they'd get old quicker.

It was frustrating being in a sports car and not being able to catch an SUV until a certain scripted point, though.

Yeah... I can see why they did it, and some of the 'obstacles' like pipes falling off vans, 18t trucks ploughing down the road were obviously scripted which you would miss out on if you could end the chases quicker. It's just annoying that they couldn't have made the game mechanic a little smoother or more obvious, perhaps giving the enemy body armour, or preventing you from shooting somehow. I know it would be a bit 'cheap', but at least it'd stop me wasting ammo!

Kalpsn2000 could you take a screen shot of the high settings please,I would like to see how much differance there is :)

Here's a few:

The quality of the screenshots are slightly reduced due to being converted to jpeg but still look good.

I think AA is something that was never considered when making the engine and probably can't be added or can't be easily added. We need to consider that we will never see AA in GTA4.

So i've got this running nicely, but i cant seem to get my joypad to work with it :( Is it not possible to custom map controls to a joypad?

I really dont want to have to do all the driving with a keyboard

Just got it installed and had a blast on multiplayer team deathmatch, was pretty fun.

Woohooo I need an upgrade:

Also I have a problem with the mouse, when Im just walking/running around I used the mouse to turn my character. But it keeps on springing back slighty from where I put it, any fix for this?

update my sig to reflect my current CPU settings. This computer is now two years old :( and has stopped wanted to overclock.

Strange...I mean I have an X2 4400, with an 8800GTS 512 and my settings are medium / high.

At stock obviously....which is 2.2 I think.
