Far Cry 2, Completely boring?

you move 2-3 meters from the camp and they all instantly re spawn so if you have to head back that way, you need to clear the camps yet again.

I also got fed up with this so I started killing everyone at every guard post I came to and then scouted it and then the enemies never re-spawn again, you can then move about the map without having to fight at the same guard posts over and over.

Not sure if i screwed up or something along the way, but when ever i cleared a guard post completely of mobs, cars and ammo and set fire to the place, they would always respawn.

I played it about 3 hours, most of it spent torching fields and seeing how much damage I can cause, yes yes, childish, I know. As for map design, I actually like it. I find it quite an accurate representation of an African country. I like the accents of the South African mercenaries and the feeling of being in a real hot area. The missions were fairly interesting and varied, although spread too far apart across the map, forcing you too drive freaking ages getting yourself into a lot of bother along the way.

I would've liked to see elephants, lions chasing down prey, varied environments (a patch of desert would've been nice, or a big waterhole) and perhaps a thick jungle like area.

Farcry 1 was such a huge game, the sequel was never going to live up to it.

You have to scout it completely and then it comes up "scouted guard post" and then from then onwards it's unlocked on the map. :)

yup same here!! just can't get into the game at all!!! the graphics at max are stunning but that's it.. maps are to big..

If that's true, I might revisit the game, because the respawning guard posts were the most annoying part of the game. On the other hand without guard posts the game will probably feel very very empty.

I enjoyed it as a shooter, but meanwhile started playing GTA4 and Mass Effect, and they are on another level in terms of immersion.

Yup, I've "unlocked" all of the guard posts and safe houses etc whenever I go near them... the unlocked safe houses stay safe/secure but the unlocked guard posts respawn within a few minutes... damned annoying!

No no no, not true, i figured it out.

All you have to do is kill the guards and locate the arms cache.

Every guards post have either weapons, ammo, bombs or medicine located there.

Just find that and it updates.

So you're saying that once you've killed the guards and got the cache at a checkpoint, it unlocks and guards never spawn there again?

I'm sure they were still re-spawning when i first started playing, before i got bored of the whole thing.

No the guards always respawn, they never stop.

But that will complete that guard post in the achievement thing.

:(

For a brief second there i thought they might have actually made the game worth playing.

Oh well. Still can't believe there's no mods out there to fix the re-spawn yet. I'm sure there's a half decent game in there somewhere if it wasn't for the handful of soul-destroying gameplay decisions the developers made.

I wonder if editing any of the .ini files to reduce spawn times will work.

But i gave up on this game and uninstalled it.

Played it on PC. Didn't run AMAZINGLY well but it ran well enough. Looked good, gameplay was less interesting than watching paint dry.

Stopped about 1hr later, never went back.

Sorry guys - I thought that it was true about them not re-spawning again. I played the game 100% and thought they never came back ; after someone posted that info or there-abouts earlier on and guessed thats why the posts became unlocked.

The prob about having the re-fight them at the spawning points. Just go through the river. Easier - also there's a desert ; drive on the outskirts of that too and you hardly have a fight.

Got this game free with my GTX280.

Graphics are lovely, but the game play is so boring!

Sometimes i feel like Dennis nedry from Jurassic park when it rains.

I don't like the idea that they just drop you off in the game after the tutorial and don't tell you what the hell everything means on the map.

All the "quests/mission" are the same just different locations.

The Weapon guy quests are always the other side of the map from you!

The main story line is just completely uninteresting and the weapon mechanics with locking/jamming is good, but since when does a weapon degrade after using it 3 times?

The immersion content they added is really good fun, i really enjoy that.

Sadly i think this game aimed the wrong direction with a great concept.

Same, played it for about 6 hours then lost interest, its extremely repetitive.

Its a shame, without the guard posts, getting to and from the quite nice locations, the ruins, the big mansions, train yards, those fights are pretty decent, it would be a pretty decent game.

The thing is EVERYONE complains about the guard posts, because every mission feels the same as the majority of time spent is simply getting to and from a mission and fighting 15 guard posts on the way. If they took them out, it would basically not change the game in any real way but would become infinitely more playable.

The thing is the guard posts make NO sense at all, why would 3 random people sit at a poorly defending post in a country in a cival war where both sides are trying to kill each other. have a main base for each place, and a few more larger bases FAR less spread out with far more people in with actual missions to take you there.

the guard posts are just generic console rubbish padding out of games. The game without guardposts is probably a pretty enjoyable 10hours of gameplay, with the guard posts it becomes 50-60 hours of the most horrendous tedius gameplay known to man, how their gaming testers didn't get final copies and say to the dev's that its simply horrible and they should take the guard posts out I don't know.

But I'm not sure why people expected much, these guys didn't make Far Cry 1, but bought the name, released a crap add on or two and crappy console versions and then made this. To be fair, great engine, great graphics, but horrible story/acting/idea's/gameplay as with their previous attempts.

Far Cry 2 is not the original Far Cry, which I loved.

I don't even find the graphics amazing, they are nice but not awesome.

Gets boring almost instantly, rinse and repeat missions -> treking all over pointlessly - one thing i actually liked was taking the bus and bypass those lame guard posts

AI offers no challenge and I played on highest setting (will admit i didnt finish and maybe it gets harder later, but I doubt it).

Multiplayer is actually most enjoyable part of the game, but not enough to compete with so many other online shooters

Conclusion: average - give it a miss, unless you really have the time and nothing else to play

PS would love if Ubisoft recreated RedStorm who made the original Rainbow six series, I haven't played a decent Ubi shooter since.

i found it boaring after a while I like what it offcers through...and the AI has a super in humman like ablity to see you from miles way through a wall >_> i got around that through, just set fire to everything and run like hell
