Far Cry 2, Completely boring?

The core combat mechanic is fun, but if they think shooting lots of baddies makes a good computer game, they've been listening to my mum too much.

Disappointing game IMO, should have had a far stronger story and more variety.

Mine is now sitting on the shelf collecting dust, played it for a max of about 20 minutes, 15 of those must have been driving.

All of the above criticism is fair, however I still found the game as a whole fairly enjoyable and went on to complete it. Okay it’s not great but I found it okay.

All I’m saying is if you’ve purchased it and now wonder why you bothered after reading all this I’d still say give it a chance, you might like it. There was a long thread when it came out and although a lot of people didn’t like it there were some that thought it was okay.

A couple of tips to avoid some of the tedium. Firstly always check to see if there is a convenient bus route to save you driving miles, and if the checkpoints annoy you then don’t stop, you can just speed through most of them, then stop briefly and take out the jeep that’s chased you.

Sums it up pretty well from my opinion. I completed the game and it did last quite a while (easily longer than most games on the market). I played over a few weeks, playing a little bit (30mins-1 hour) every few days and it is a half decent game.

As said above it can be repetitive but just be imaginative in going about missions and dont play it for like 5 hours straight. Graphics are great and runs good, as said above.

I was really dissapointed with this game, the original was way better.

I just couldnt care less about progressing as the story was so weak and the AI is rubbish.

Yep, main reason I'm enjoying it, just little bits here and there, and also the fact its single player (many online games blocked at uni halls)

I only wish that it had a little more to it, something like some mini games, doing jobs for people and stuff. Rather than the standard mission -> mission.

Its not that bad..

too be fair, its not much like farcry1, but like someone else posted earlier on, i got past the 1hr mark and im actually enjoying it. I can see why many people dont like it, it is a bit tedious doing a mission thats miles away, only to see the camp you just wiped out is full of occupants again

Whats keeping me playing it is the visuals, i can run it all on ultra high and a what a beauty it is to see, which made me think, are all new games going to become like this, a visual master class that lacks that cutting edge gameplay.

I got this for £15 squid and i aint going to put it down, well not yet, it does seem rather a long time as previously mentioned to get to the mission point, where you only kill about 2 people, yet to get there you killed about 10.

It would have been good to see alligators in the murky rivers ready to pounce on you or the enemies :p

I felt the same with this game as i did with gta iv, it felt miles apart from the previous (far cry 1/san andreas) but given time it slowly grows on you. To sum it up, i wouldnt dismiss this game at all, but if your looking for far cry 1 then stick to crysis, this is inbetween just cause and crysis i would say, i would honestly give this game a 8/10, what would you rate it at

The length of the game is drastically inflated by the ridiculous amount of travelling you have to do. It didn't help though that I'd missed the fact there was a bus stop in the middle of the map, which at least helps if you have a mission near one of the corners.

Another thing that lets it down are the characters. Even the people who help you out and can save you if you go down in a firefight are just so generic, and simply aren't likable. At one point, one of them actually sent up a flare, and I found her by the roadside. Didn't have any medipacks on me so couldn't help her, but I simply didn't care, as there was no empathy with the character.

I did enjoy the combat though, and it doesn't deserve some of the slatings it gets. Anyway, if you've got it as a freebie with a graphics card recently, you can't complain can ya? ;)

Tedious, repetitive and boring. Graphics were ok but I couldn't enjoy this game and gave up.

I did get Stalker for a few quid on Steam in December but that also become dull quite quickly. I thought it was a bit better then Farcry2 but again not enough to complete it.

Once you reach the second part of the map (the south) and get settled in there. It is a lot easier to travel around, i found my self rarely running into guard posts and if i did i could easily just go round them. I set up base (where i saved game) down near mikes bar (second map) and it is within easy reach of boats/bus station - no guard posts so you can travel the town without having to stop off at guard posts.

As said before, id give it a chance especially if you got it free. Then again i no longer have it installed as i felt the fact that the ending was just that, the end, was badly thought out as they could have designed so that you could go back (for example have a house/hut in the jungle) so you can continue getting diamonds and stuff you might of missed. Rather than making you start the whole game again.

I never got the Diamonds thing, where did he buy all the suitcases. Total arcade nonsense and very cheap way of trying to pad the game.

payed £15 for it which is still good - not sure if i would pay full £30-£45 for it however.

my best game 3 games from the last couple of years are probably:

1) GTA IV - PC
2) The Witcher - PC
3) Fifa 09 - PC

But is it me or are games getting worse, need for speed undercover is a brillian example, an absolute sham of a game. For me if you havnt played the witcher i would say get it, the characters you can emphasise with and the game as a whole is a marvel really

I have the enhanced edition, but it doesn't grab me, the voice acting is terrible, the combat is tedious, the characters are bland, the entire game is just mediocre.
