Windows 7 beta - 9th January

Good stuff zytok, I really enjoyed playing TDU, as we're sort of on the subject of racing games :) has anyone managed to get GTR Evolution Online working correctly??
The offine version (which doesnt use steam) works 100% fine, but the online install for me seems to have graphics issues with certain tracks.
Whether I download it from steam or install it from disc it will still produce the same graphical artifacts, funnily enough it really only effects the pit lane and pit straights :confused:

I dunno the reasoning's behind it, but what I think may be the reason is because the gadgets could become a security risk/susceptible to nasties, people making their own gadgets e.t.c

That is totally my own opinion though.

As many of you undoubtedly know already, in Windows 7 Beta 1, disabling UAC also causes the gadgets to stop working. The reason for this is that Microsoft made the assumption that the sidebar process would never be run in an elevated state. So when you try to start it with UAC disabled it detects that it would have to run elevated, so it just does nothing to abide by the pre-set rules set by Microsoft

Been using this for a couple of weeks and up until last night i was loving it, but i keep getting bsod's when trying to watch divx/xvid files :(

All i can think is that it is a codec problem. The bsod which i get is to do with the ATI driver but after i reboot the X-Fi Xtreme has uninstalled itselt :confused:
I can play games no problem and ive tried using the onboard, X-Fi and Delta soundcards for hours with no problems.

I was hoping the Problems and Solutions thing that was in Vista would help me figure out what is causing the bsod.... but it seems to missing from W7 :mad:

Back to Vista for now, so i can get back to watching Rab C Nesbitt before bed :p

Pity, W7 was a real pleasure to use.

Appears there are bugs in my installation ripping it apart slowely.

Now I can run RGSC, TDU or Internet explorer as they just stop working, for IE Explorer and TDU i get the same faulting module path in even viewer:

Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll
 
Hi Guys,

I've downloaded the beta and want to run it on a VM. Can anyone suggest a free VM that will work with Windows 7?
 
Quite impressed by 7
Only had issues with my Belkin USB N wifi, however using older drivers funnily enough works perfectly!
Even the creative drivers work quite well.

The only problem is trying to google for 7 fixs as its to short
 
I've fixed my crashes. It seems they were caused by high upload speeds. I've simply capped my utorrent upload speed at 40KB/s and been careful about other uploads, and the problem has gone away.
 
Downloaded Win 7 Beta a few days ago and not had any problems (except for corrupted install due to my poor partition creation skills.) Unfortunately the only real problem is with IE8 hanging every now and then so i've gone back to Firefox which works great.

Quite a bit faster than Vista, especially booting up.

Starting to enjoy the taskbar and currently have it set to have large icons which I actually find quite nice and easy to click through.

Overall very impressed.

Now a quick question: I've ordered a Dell Studio 15 which should be arriving sometime this week.
1. Do you think i'd be stupid to install Win 7 on that? I'm feeling that it might boost performance over vista.
2. How easy is it to reinstall Vista after the beta finishes?
3. Also, has anyone done this and had any problems with drivers etc?

so, is it possible to upgrade from win7 32-bit to 64-bit? added 4GB and now have 6 so want to move to 64-bit

Also, any ETA's as to when the RC is coming?
 
no errors or issues here apart from punkbuster for cod and battlefield but i just boot into vista 64 if i want to play thoses games wish the full rtm copy would hurry up and come out

I tried win7 a week or two ago, and Steam worked fine.. but on a fresh install today, my Steam games list looks like this:




The "download paused/started" status remains, even though I can launch the games fine, and the content is fully downloaded :/

Maybe the last Steam update broke win7 compatability :(
 
Whenever I minimize a window Windows Live Messenger window pops up. It's really getting on my nerves lol. Anyone else have this problem?

mines the same l4d works but css and hl2 remain download paused
 
By the way, what happens when the beta period ends? Do our beta installations stop working after a given period, or do we get to keep it? I'd hate to have it shut down and then have to wait months to buy the proper OS.
