no job, live with my mam, 21

if i wanted to make something up I think it would be more interesting than buying a budget laptop for a 14 year old and / or being a loser

May be the OP has the most outrageously interesting lifestyle and feels the need to make himself seem dull with trivial posts sent from the cockpit of his leer jet while doing some international espionage.

Being fair, you don't need to go to uni to learn about IT. 95% of the things you learn you can learn from books yourself. For me uni was more about growing up, learning to live without my parents.

Depending what area of IT you want to get into, making a portfolio of the projects you done while learning will go along way. Don't have to go to uni for that and end up with a 14k loan... ¬_¬

You know, not going to uni is not a big deal. Sure, its nice, you get to meet lots of people your age, have fun and with luck, learn something. But you can do all that without uni. Go look at NVQ course in a subject you like. Read up on the topic you want to do. your 21, your not old, your mature enough to ask for help, go ask others. get to the dole, if your on for 6 months a lot of nvq 2 and 3's are free for you to do. i did one, nvq3 networking, now im 3rd line support and no, i didnt go to uni.

1st thing. Work out what you want to do, what YOU want to do. Anything at all in the world. Then go get the quals to do it.

You can do anything you want, all you need are the steel round objects to go take it.

What are you waiting for.... no one is going to hand you your dream job, go get it.

Good luck and have fun...

I'm 22, unemployed (but damn I'm trying hard, just putting in an application at McDonalds even *spits*), live with my mum, crap college grades (had major issues from 16-20).

I WANT to go to Uni, but don't actually know where to start or what to study, and I'm not as naive as I was and won't go jumping into something for the sake of it.

I'm tempted to go back to my college and do a Access course, however I have a feeling it's going to cost and I'm skint on the £45 a week I get from JSA to "live" on.

Dude. take the job at Mcdonald's (part-time) and go back to college doing something you're interested in. Then go to Uni after.

you don't have to pay for anything out of your own money, you apply for a student loan. I get a £350 per month student loan and £235 per month student grant, I only need to pay the loan back and the grant is for free. They also pay your tuition fees.

just find a part-time job and think about what you want to do, then apply to a college course in the spring.

Hi
Im 23 unemployed but work at KFC (only 20 hours) so it doesnt count. Anyway ive been unemployed at KFC for 5 years, im skint (btw what laptop would you recoomend, budget £2000) so im stuck. I live at home (i pay all the bills) with mum, dad ( both unemployed working at KFC).
I just want to get out of this rut, where should i begin?
My job interest would be the fast food industry, maybe a supervisor role?

To the OP.

From the manner of your posts it seems you have a problem with self esteem. I think Self confidence is one of the big issues an employer looks out for in the character of a person. Therefore if I were you I would get some counselling around the issues of self esteem to help you to see yourself and your uniqueness in a better light.

Then, go further your education in something you will enjoy. You can afford it. Perhaps look at manufacturer qualifications like Cisco or Microsoft or VMWare if you are into IT and want to get into a particular market.

The main thing is that you have to initiate SOMETHING to get out of the downward spiral you are in. Counselling will help you. If they help identify a person that failed you, forgive them and move on. Let the past stay in the past and not affect your future. RISE UP MAN!

:)

That's IF McDonald's will take me.

I've had too many applications at places (supermarkets, small shops etc) that I feel I should have had the job but not been given it, either due to prejudice against unemployment or other reasons which baffle me. I'm a perfectly capable human being and working in a shop is a doddle :/

My college (Southport College) I've been there studying a few courses and each time I've been astonished by the poor quality of teaching, I'm really not going to be spending money on a course there. I'd rather apply for uni and do a foundation or something.

However, my interests revolve around technology, sound, music and film.
