Darkfall - Jan 22nd (maybe...)

Just done a little research and its the same sites offering client side hacks as for WoW and WAR etc. They don't do everything clientside, apparently if the client and server disagree on certain things the server wins and it gets flagged.

I guess it depends if you want to get maxed skills asap or want to play the game.

But when it's a PvP game you've no choice. I think that's I loved the old SWG so much. You were under no pressure to macro skills and could just play the game as it was meant to be played. Sometimes it was fun to play the whole skill maxing game (injecting dancers in cantinas to keep them on their feet :D)
but if you didn't want to it didn't matter.

@ Psypher - no point in posting something like that without a link.

im just relaying what guy at uni said.

FYI hes not just some kid.. lol. Hes the co ordinater of the games course im on, basically the network and rooms we use he is in charge of, blahblahblah. And a MASSSIVE mmo fan.

Obviously if its not true then good, but if it is then :/ (I would like it to be false, Ive been hyped bout darkfall for ages now)

Thats true. If I do play this it won't be too seriously. More akin to my char "poo poo man" who would tame a load of wolves around moonglow, befriend new players and then set the wolves on them out of the guard zones. It's surprising how little things can be so much fun :p.

so its all client side and has been hacked already. lvl 30 weapons at lvl 10

gg

You can use any level weapon at any stage of the game. If you don't have the correct skill, it loses durability aroun 5-10x faster.

Darkfall isn't item based. Wearing plate armour, which is the best armour ingame so far only adds around 15% defence than being naked.

You don't need to have max'd out skills to be decent in PvP as much as in other games.

If they have any sense they will sort out the macroing issue - if UO can solve that issue then they shouldn't have any problems.

It is not levelling in the same way as most other games.
In other games you can simply take the quickest route to gain XP and then once you "level" you get to increase whatever skills you like.
So for example:

I go out and use my sword over and over again, gain XP and eventually level.
Once I level I go and increase my "Healing Skill".
So by using my sword over and over again I manage to increase my....healing skill :-/

As with UO, the idea is that to increase a skill you need to actually use that skill.
It doesn't stop there, to continue to increase that skill you will have to use it in more and more difficult situations.
For that that didn't ever play UO (god I love that game...played it since the beta and that was when it was US servers only and I was here in the UK on 14.4k dial-up!).
Anyway, lets say I was increasing my healing skill.

To begin with I'd heal wounds to increase my skill.
As my skill went up I'd have to start curing poison to increase my skill.
Next it would be a higher level of poison, then deadly poison.
Finally it would be by resurrecting people I would gain healing skill.
There was no simple way of "macroing" away and just simply doing basic healing on myself to get to 100 skill.

Blacksmithing, you start off making simple items to gain skill, by the time you're at skill 88 you have to be making plate items or else you wouldn't gain any skill.

UO's skill system is still the best and "most realistic" even now.
SWG tried with their skill system, but that game failed for so many other reasons.
Darkfall certainly looks interesting.

I spent most of my time in UO power gaming to the verge of exploiting. When there was no PvP (even that I pushed the boundaries with.. 0.5sec bandages anyone? :p), thats where the fun was for me.

Shadow heaters, carto bug, GL resist stone..

I also spent the majority of pub15/16 scamming and stealing with my theif. Made a silly, silly amount of gold.

If Darkfall can go anywhere near recreating the anything goes/every man for himself atmosphere that early UO had.. Ill be there for years.

If you remove the works exploiting and scamming then I'll fully agree with you.
There is no place for exploiters in such a game.
As for scammers - they come just above exploiting.
Sure, use the "proper" game mechanics to play dirty - thieving and the like.
But scamming other players - usually those that really don't know what is happening is just the lowest of the low.

I remember starting UO proper and as soon as my character arrived I had people offering me money for my "free piece of ranger armour" all newbies got.
To me as a newbie the thought of that gold was great - but thankfully I knew the true value of the stuff.
Tricking people into looting a grey corpse - another no no.

Simple "scams" such as posing as a blacksmith and taking peoples stuff when they ask for repairs.
Sounds horrible, however it gave us "real blacksmiths" the opportunity to make a good name for ourselves etc.

Scamming was fine in my book. Used to do it in countless ways, and had a lot of fun doing it. However, none of them used glitched game mechanics - All were entirely legit and just socially engineered. Generally exploiting peoples greed, and leaving them with nothing :D

And to whoever asked, yes - its released this evening. Im still not sure if Ill be able to play it, awaiting an email from the uni network admins.

Couldnt get pre-ordered but hoping to get my order in tonight. Forums are mullered at the mo and accounts section is dead so guess they are getting ready. I'm currently guildless so will have a look at that site later :).

dammit, I promised myself I would wait a few weeks to see how it goes, but I'm sorely tempted by this, especially after looking forward to it for years

Yeah i just got fed up of what seemed to much like a single player game, i kept meaning to get to 40 before quitting but i couldnt bring myself to log on again before my subscription ended.

Nope i forgot, memory of an 80 year old unfortunately :D.

EDIT

Just realised you meant the destro guild, i gave up at level 19 with that one. Started again a few months ago and got to 34 with a runepriest but account expired a couple of days ago.
