Darkfall - Jan 22nd (maybe...)

They say they are still checking account manager but they think they've solved the issues. Once that's done they are goign to put more up for sale. I'm going to try this game. Wasted money on so many mmo's this one can't be as bad as most of teh offerings. Still it's worth a try for a few weeks. Just hope I can get my hands on it soon.

Just a word of advice, make sure you find a group to venture out with or get guilded because their are herd's of enemies patrolling around looking for fresh blood.

It's very immersive, I spent an hour running to another city last night with my guild members so we could form our guild and it was quite fun.

It takes a good chunk of your evening up as well ^_^.

More copies available tonight, but i don't get paid till friday :(.
We’ll open up sales of a limited number of copies of Darkfall tonight European time Tuesday March 3d. We will try to repeat this every weekday until the extreme demand slows down and we’re able to leave the shop open 24/7. To answer the questions of how you can sell out a digital download, we’re throttling the number of new players in the world to limit queue times and protect the user experience. Server optimizations first and adding new servers in time are the steps we are taking to improve this experience.

From our launch experience, the extreme demand caused the account management infrastructure to lag and often time out. The hammering of the system by the users made things worse. Repeated attempts by users led to charge failures because of bank security rules. Incorrect billing information also led to failed transactions.

We expect the account management system to face extreme demand today as well. In order to try to avoid the issues we describe above, users who refresh before timing out, open multiple windows or tabs, and hammer the system will be temporarily blocked. Please do not refresh unless you have timed out or you will lose your place in the queue.

We'll post when sales open. If the copies we have available for today sell out, we will repeat this process again tomorrow.

Thank you,

The Darkfall Team

Love the way everyone says how great it is that it's full loot on death, real consequences for dying, etc etc and yet every screenshot I see is full of people naked and using their bound starter weapon :)

Maybe they are naked with their starter weapon because they have already lost everything as a result of the full loot on death, real consequences for dying, etc etc :D

Hmm what to do, should i spend money on this game and hope it turns out ok or just wait till eq progress server and then daoc origins after that?

give it a few weeks and only griefers will still be playing

Certainly will be interesting to see how the game goes over the coming months. I remember the early days of UO when people said only griefers will play this, yet I stayed in UO (along with a lot of other people) for 4 years :)

Did the harsh death penalties remain throughout those 4 years though Tombstone? The only game I've tried with a similar sort of system was Neocron and they made the death penalties progressively less severe over time (to the point where you could opt out of pvp altogether) as they were being abused so badly.

They were there when I was playing, no idea whats happened since then though. Could be that the ability to loot a corpse has gone now, or maybe they let you "insure" items like in some other MMOs now, no idea. But when I played yep, it was there. I must have died thousands of times to PKers and lost my gear, although at the time I found it annoying it was only after I had left and gone to other games that I realised how much I missed the adrenalin rush and sense of fear when away from the towns.

I played UO from beta and those early days of mass player killing were not fun.
No matter what the vocal minority said it was only fair once punishments for crime were introduced.
Stat-loss and inability to enter nearly all towns for red characters was n important development.
UO was still dangerous and the further you ventured away from the town and town protection the more likely you were to be attacked.
However that was all part of the game.

Trust me, if this game is like the early UO days then they will lose a lot of potential players very quickly.
People do not want to be fighting within seconds of joining a game.
People who want to make crafters don't want to be killed every single time they try and gather resources...

Darkfall could be "UO2" but it could also end up being SWG....

...the adrenalin rush and sense of fear when away from the towns.

Those were the days, I remember experiencing that rush as both PK and PKed. I started off as part of a PK guild. We had a bridge we would hide on, two or three on each end, so when someone came running across they would get stuck between us and quickly dispatched :D Guild politics and a leader with a power complex forced me to hang up my reagents bag and retire to the mountains to become a solitary ore miner. Returning home one day, my pack full of gold, I had a bit of difficulty getting into my house. I realised too late that my guild had tracked me down, broken in and were lying in wait. I only just managed to barge my way out and run for the safety of town. After that I pretty much went feral, learnt archery and lived in the wild hunting animals (and the odd player). Maybe its just nostalgia but theres few games that I have enjoyed as much as UO. If Darkfall can capture any of the old magic I'll definitely be giving it a go.
