ATI X1900XT 512MB @ 702/810
2GB RAM

Update 5.49pm GMT

After addressing a couple of early issues the servers have been running very stable for several hours and we have a large number of players in-game right now.

It’s normal to expect more issues to surface in the next couple of days. We postponed our scheduled maintenance of 10am GMT for later until we can gather some more data and address anything that comes up in a patch later tonight.

We’re aware that some areas are experiencing sync issues for some players. This is a high priority issue that we are working to address as soon as possible. We know the cause for it so it shouldn’t take very long. We will keep the servers up while this is being fixed and we will bring them down for a patch later tonight. For now, players can move away from starting areas to improve their experience.

We have processed the problematic accounts that were never charged but received a successful pre-order notification. Only a small percentage of these were successful and we found out that this is because most of them contain incomplete or incorrect account information. We will try this one last time again tomorrow morning European time, and we’ll open up account management later tonight for these accounts to be able to correct their account data and credit information before we reprocess them. If anyone does not want the pre-order to be processed, they should remove their credit card information from their account. After this is concluded we should be able to open up sales for more Darkfall copies.

That’s all for now, we’ll keep you updated with anything new that comes up.

The Darkfall Team

Looks like no gaming tonight for anyone who didnt get a pre-order in.

I've managed to get in until I realised I've got 500mb on my download cap left so I've got to wait until 10 (or tommorow when my cap resets) and the graphics are actually not bad at all.

I've set everything to maximum and it's surprisingly well run and quite stable. I'll report back when I can get in without going past my cap.

I know there having some problems with the game, which is understandable. I don't think any mmo has ever had a smooth launch. I haven't bought it yet but has anyone been able to play? First impressions?

I was actually looking for a forum anywhere, to see if its all been a massive scam and no ones in and by taking the forums off they are hiding it as long as they can as they move the money away :p

But looks like a few people have got in, apparently the "sync" issue is that mob's can be attacking you, without you realising till too late, just too overloaded in the newbie zones maybe.

Its a bit of a pain taking the forums off though, shouldn't be that hard to rent a couple servers and spread the load, get some impressions of the game, and even if not that, slightly more info on news like, "we won't be putting any games on sale today so don't bother checking", or "if you want to get one of the final 3k copies, they'll be on sale at 5pm" to at least give everyone and equal and fair chance. meh.

I've seen both positive and negative first impressions on various forums, which is pretty much what I expected from this style of game. UO was always a love/hate game too, some say it was the greatest MMO ever, others say it was nothing more than a gankfest of griefing. Very opposite ends of the spectrum kind of thing in opinions, its pretty much the kind of diverse opinion range I was expecting from something like Darkfall too, so no real surprises in that regard for me.

I was playing last night, the sync issue was the biggie. Despite pinging 30 - 40ms with 0% loss you just couldnt see mobs, they were not there. But suddenly you starting being hit by something and die... quite annoying.

Graphically it was a lot better than I was expecting although not fantastic. But none the less quite nice, the character models were not that great but scenery etc... just fine and dandy.

i saw a few screen shots from others on other forums, better than I thought to still a little sterile it seemed, not a huge amount going on in terms of foliage and clutter, but the semi distant tree's and characters looked better than some of the footage I'd seen.

don't suppose you could whack it up to top settings(if you can't run it smoothly) and link a few screenshots of the starting town or something as I've yet to see how a more busy towny area looks.

Only thing still getting to me is just not knowing when or how many copies more they'll sell. For all I know at some random hour they'll put up another 1,000, and thats it for the next month till they get another cluster together somewhere for a few more servers. Maybe when they release more copies it will be 50,000 and they won't sell out, I just have no idea.

Jbod, is there a list of servers you can join, as well, again no where really makes it clear now big it is, how many worlds are running, how busy the worlds are. They could have one packed out server or 20 half full, not a clue.

-Forums down
-Site is @#$%@#
-No idea where to buy the game from
What a joke

site is crap tbh, but other than that, forums down, so rare on the internet. It is retarded, why they can't put the updates on the main site and reopen the forum I don't know. Actually I guess its mostly down to this, a small team, not a half a billion moderators or tech support people to help those with problems on forums. essentially they've probably got every single person on the team working to fix initial problems as fast as possible and forums, replying to people who want help and mostly threads on people wanting to know when stuff will be fixed, will just slow them down.

You can buy the game direct from them, only place you can, sales are closed till they fix some things though which while irritating is responsible, they could just take sale after sale after sale before realising who and how many people are wanting to play and if their servers can cope with current numbers.

While I'm bored its better that than selling everyone a copy and no one being able to play at all due to lag and login attempts killing the server completely.

Considering the money they have, (ie none compared to Blizzard) and the joke that is any major content update for them, WOLTK meant massive queues, lots of crashing and unstable issues with lots of people, days of massive lag and not being able to get on.......... well, most MMO's with serious money , time, manpower have problems so what do you expect.

Turbine/Lotro was just about the smoothest mmo launch ever, it was stupidly stable in beta, more so at launch, smooth launch where I don't remember any issues at all. If it wasn't for Codemasters screwing things up in europe for patch updates so often it would almost be the perfectly run MMO.

Didn't mythic/goa close the WAR forums in beta when a lot of people were using them to voice their complaints about the game? Seem to remember something like that.

Im not desparate to play at this point anyway. I just hope the game stays afloat long enough to fix the problems and pull in a decent amount of players. Shame it hasn't got animal taming like UO, now that would have me beating a path to their subscription page.

Well here is a quick screeny I took, it was just as night lift and the sun rose over the trees:

darkfall-sunrise.jpg

Things to note, trees gently sway in the wind, the shadows are very well done as accuratly track across the ground, players and other objects. Makes it feel quite alive. What is missing is wildlife... you go to the goblin camp and there are lots of players there fighting over the spawn, go outside that area and it is quite barren.

They just took the servers down as I deleted my elf char to create a human and try out their starting area.... oh yea... On char per server ... and there is just one server at the moment.

Looks like there was an mob ai bug which all the big clans exploited and now ahve more money than msot other people who didnt exploit it

Therefore there is now a huge sense of imbalance in the game atm and they refuse to punish the exploiters. Worst launch for a MMO I wreckon, of this size anyway

Not surprising though, was always going to be a rough launch for such a small company. Important thing is whether or not the people ingame are enjoying it, if they arent thats the biggest problem, if they are then that bodes well.

thing is theres already riots going on in the forums about exploiters, like 99% of the community wants to basically rape that clan silly and most of them know who it is. So basically they'll use that money to build a city, craft weapons, and every single other person in the game will just destroy everything they make leveling it out again. WHich to be honest would be jawesome battle to be in/watch............. if anyone can get in to do so.

I hear the lack of wildlife is rather apparent and semi intended, but lack of mobs is mostly a bug i believe as lots weren't spawning else where that should, and those that were are being camped for loot/quests/money(not exploited just people need them). I assume they'll add wildlife and more mob's over time, but a lot of people are saying lots of the barren area's are so theres places to build citys(are these designated or can a clan start building anywhere they like?) and area's for people to pvp without being run into by mobs.

Everyone was saying being run into by mobs in a massive pvp fight would suck, but am I the only one who thinks that would be very cool. You've got a 50vs50 fight, then a few massive uber elite trolls walk through and decide to pound you , so everyone fights together against the trolls, then back to pvp? That kind of thing would be fantastic.

if you can build absolutely anywhere, imagine building in some remote area that the only route through is a spawn of trolls, you can use mob spawns as protection.
