Hawx

Gave this a bash last night and damn I loves it :D
I was playing under the DX10 mode and FPS were good. Havent tried DX9 mode...will see how that works tonight. But I am impressed with it so far and cant wait to have it in my hands :)

thanks for the fast link.

Just downloading now @9.6MB/s :D
Being on a uni ISP has its advantages.

Total dwnld time = 2mins 24s

Tried it, really didn't like it. They really need to get rid of that camera view, or make it optional. Although the rate at which the planes turn would make people sick I suppose. Looks fantastic though.

wasn't impressed with looks tbh (it's OK but kind of plain) and couldn't get DX10. Pain to use keyboard and hated forced non-cockpit views on some parts.

seems like a fun little game though, will probably get it once i find my Saitek x45 HOTAS somewhere in a box  - haven't used it since IL Sturmovik (great game but not many ppl online :(). I wasn't very good, I was target practice :o - anyway Hawx should be easier

afaik, if you choose expert controls you can do the fancy manoeuvres from the other views negating the need to use the zoomed out external view.

hopefully retail version will have cool online and some canyon maps for sneaky approaches ;)

any1 know if there will be carrier landings (reload/refuel at night and gale storms)?

Yeah I felt the same way - trying to sideslip to get the drones chasing you - all I kept doing was stalling - annoying view. All I want to do is fly around and shoot stuff like in Ace Combat.

You can do exactly that you don't have to use the 3rd person infact you could play the whole mission without it, try the Rio mission. That drone exercise is just a training level.

and an easy way to take them down is to press brake hard without stalling and flip the plane up to get into the path to take down the drones.

It's really not a hard game and you shouldn't have to think about it really. It's better than Ace Combat imo.

I wanted to love this game, but ended up not liking it. Just not my cup of tea. To arcade like for me, and I hate that.

Great for a console, and my boy loves it on the 360.

Not for me.

I CAN'T BELIEVE MY EYES!!!

This is happening on the PC platform!!!

I started my virtual pilot career since I bought a cheap Pentium machine in 1994. It has been 15 years now. When I was studying in Manchester University, I did my final year project about Ray Tracing algorithm. All the lightings, reflection, rendering took tens of hours to complete. My affections about images and graphics started at that time. Over th eyears, my affection never diminish a little.

Today I see the most insame graphics and the fastest speed ever seen in any flight simulation games I have played over the last 15 years. My wishes of photo-realistic landscape have to dated back to the first release of Falcon 4.0 in 1999. And what we have in Hawx is really "a dream comes true"!

Thanks to whoever make this great simulation and let it be brought on to the PC platform, my gratitude goes beyond words truly! No matter how arcadish this is, it is nevertheless the most stunning graphics I have ever experienced and seen. And I would say this is a giant step in flight simulation and definitely a milestone in the flight simulation history.

I believe is a finest moment of all the virtual pilots in the virtual sky in the virtual world, let us rejoice at this great materpiece!!!!
