PC Gamer Mag

Aye. PC Gamer lost all credibility after it's FarCry 2 review.

I always find that their reviews are always quite accurate but the actual score doesnt quite match what they write about in the review.. You know, i never realised it before but I agree with Tute. You do get the impression that PCG want Valves babies.

Yeah, but doesn't everyone want Valve's babies? I for one would certainly put out for old Gabe.

Well I don't know - I really enjoyed FC2. Horses for courses.

I'm in PC Gamer's WoW guild. :D Did an instance with the editor of the mag, he's a nice guy. :)

This, exactly. I think they have a very high standard of writing and reporting, but sometimes it's very evident that they've been told to stick to an agreed score, and they're struggling to get the real message across in the actual review.

Probably explains why they go through so many editors, you couldn't keep that up for long.

Ever heard of resession?, not everybody can efford a Net Book :P, but then again at the prices the mags come out now £5 + you might aswell save up for one. :D

Is it the same as recession? :p

Yeh, at the price of PC mags these days it wont take long to save for a netbook.

Haven't bought any magazines since I got a decent net connection, probably saved a small fortune by now.

I remember a bunch of mp3's bundled with a PCZ game disk years ago, that had Brooker winding up various customer support operators. Look up "Charlie Brooker calls Eidos" on youtube, hilarious stuff.

i had i listen to those on you tube the one that made me laugh the most was when he called up BMG about the content in GTA lol

i subscribe to PCG - i've never had a problem with their scores or reviews, find some of the articles they do about hardware and stuff pretty interesting and generally tend to agree with what they say. if i ever find anyone or anything that I totally agree with 100% all the time then i'd probably be dead.

i'm also much less likely to trust anything i read on the internet, if i bought my games by the strength of what i read on forums (including this one) then I'd never buy a game - someone is always complaining about it. likewise, i'm not going to boycott the internet because someone said something i didn't agree with.

Likewise. I've been reading SO MUCH negative reviews on the net lately I just haven't bought PC games AT ALL.

I bought DOW2 without looking at any reviews. Some professional reviews site said it was good and that was it for me. Went to 'A******N and looked there at reviews by other users and it just put me off so much.

'Most' of the negative reviews came regarding DRM and not many of them contribute to comments on gameplay.

naah my version of the recession is more hardcore and steals more money

Total PC Gaming was excellent when it was priced at 3.99. Then they latched onto the whole 'add a CD and charge 5.49' and it aint such good value anymore. Large MMO section though.

Agreed, it was a great mag too, like old skool pc zone, who wants a dvd these days? Its ridiculous, ive never used anything from them from when the internet started.

Quite like PC Gamer and their podcast is always worth a listen, Last couple of times i tried PC Zone i wasnt keen, they seemed to be going in the direction of PC/crap lads mag. To be honest though i generally find myself hard pushed to spend £5+ on a magazine that comes with demos that have already been released and news ive already read. Unless i lose broadband in the near future i cant see me going back to them.

PCZone magazine in the Charlie Brooker era

+1.

PCZone still seems to be the best, just had a flick through an opened copy of PC Gamer, apart from the Total War review, it was very poor, nothing of interest and pathetic hardware section. Zone still seems better, although I stopped buying all of them when they started charging over €10!

That reminds me, I must go read Charlie's latest articles in the Guardian. Absolutely hilarious.

Not bought gamer for a couple of years, bolted up in my tent for the week i had to grab some reads before i left for the moors.

Downhill realy, used to buy the mag on a monthly basis 4-5 years ago, then they changed the format, less pages of information and more tacky sectional content, interest droped off.

Only seems to have gone futher downhill, less pages, smaller articles, less everything.. took me longer to read through the ps3 mag:(

Wish id bought the zone, decent last time i looked.

Total PC Gaming for me - just wish they would stick to the original concept and dump the useless cover disc and resulting high cover price. I no longer trust the reviews in PC Gamer or PC Zone. And Dear Wandy in PC Zone is a berk who believes 64-bit operating systems are 'only for corporate workstations'

Personally i have a subscription to pc format at the moment. I was with pc gamer for a long time and then i seemed to make the transition from just pc gaming to the hardware side to things and a little bit of gaming. Pc format was and still is perfect for me.
