Drakensang : The Dark Eye Bags Best RPG 2008

its bizarre, pretty much everything up to 1920x1080 is listed, 1680x1050 included, but no 1920x1200 so at max res I have black bars, odd to say the least.

I have the Gamersgate digital download version and it plays at 1920x1200 perfectly fine. In the option screen the res isnt at the very bottom of the list where it normally is, its about 4th from the bottom. Between 1680x1050 and 1280x720. It seems that rather than ordering the res by size it orders it by ratio first.

I am using Vista x64 and a Geforce GTX 260 with the latest drivers. It may be a driver issue thats blocking the res for you.

How did you manage to purchase it because I am blocked from purchasing due to UK location.

I purchased it late last Sunday and downloaded it overnight. When I went back to Gamersgate on Monday afternoon to get the link so I could post it on a forum, the game was no longer for sale in my region. I guess they were not supposed to release it to the UK before the boxed version. They must have only realised and changed it on Monday :(

Edit: Try this link: http://www.gamersgate.com/index.php?page=product&what=view&sku=DD-DRAKEN

I even tried to use a proxy and that did not work. Delayed access makes no sense as it only encourages illegal downloading.

I'm in UK and bought it from GamersGate no problem when it first became available on there, and 1920x1200 is working fine for me.

EDIT: Guess I was lucky then?, they stopped UK purchases?....I agree that staggered releases aren't good.

Just tried to buy it there and worked for me - not going through with it though as I know it'll be cheaper than the £28 it is on there now when it comes out in stores.

I just bought it in the UK and works fine!

Finding some aspects of it a little difficult to understand...like leveling up!

I'm not entirely convinced by this.

Not a fan of the "TDE" ruleset. I mean, I like 6-sided dice as much as the next wizard, but even I get baffled by the numbers being tossed around in this game. It just seems overly complicated, and I like to think of myself as a relatively intelligent guy.

Then there are the PC's. They're so lacking in any depth that I can barely remember their name, and to top it off the story is pretty poor - I wondered if it got better later on, but reading reviews and topics on the forums suggest this isn't the case.

My other criticism's include:

- not being able to travel back to an old location....they actually LOCK you out of it. Ok, there may not be much point to travelling back, but it takes away the immersion.

- Starting to cast a spell puts you right on top of the aggro list, making spellcasters hard work. I wasn't aware rats and wolves were clever enough to judge classes and threat levels

- Camera is a pain in the arse

I really wanted to like this, but as someone who plays and loves RPG's for the story, characters and overall immersion, this seems lacking on all points. Guess I'll just wait for Dragon Age :(

I agree with you regarding the lack of immersive characters and story, but the sad reality is that there are so few old school RPG's being released that I will gladly look past any shortcomings.

Anyone have issues with frame skipping in the demo? It is not that bad but still annoying. It is an issue I have with my 4870 in some games which I fixed by editing .ini files and in-game console commands. none of these options are available with drakensang.

I'm also running this and lots of other games on a 4870 with zero issues!

If your having to edit ini files it sounds like a driver problem to me!

It happened on a clean build and I have also tried various drivers. It is a known issue with some Ati set-ups and is most common in Far Cry 2. I have also experienced it in LOTRO. Limiting the frame rate completely resolves the issue.

edit - I see there is a new Ati driver which hopefully does the trick.

I installed the latest Ati drivers and the frame skipping was still there and when I enable vsync in the control panel the skipping is gone. I tried this with the previous drivers and it did not work, so it's a result. Now I just have to wait for the full game.

Not sure if this has been posted but the game is now available on Steam.
Thanks for that. I thought it was only going to be released at the end of the month. They may have moved the English Europe release forward due to the amount of pirating that staggered US early release date encourages. I think it's really stupid of publishers to release the same language versions of games at different times.
