Yeah so my parents kicked me out yesterday and I spent last night in a hotel. I can't afford to rent, so I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of government help I'm entitled to? Obviously I'm going into the council in a while to talk to them about it, but it won't hurt to ask here too.

Yeah, I work full-time in a hotel (irony). Only on minimum wage, but generally do 40+ hours a week.

I'm 31. Was only planning on living at my parents for a couple of months until I could save a little.

Have you really been kicked out? or just pretend kicked out so you can get a council flat?

If its the latter, for added effect get a girl pregnant, you will get a free house then

Go to your local council and they'll put you on the waiting list for a delapidated property of some sort meanwhile look into renting with other people so's you can split the cost

Real thing. Looks like I may have to pay for another hotel room tonight. :/ I don't especially want a council flat, but right now I really have nowhere to go (currently in an internet cafe) and only a couple of hundred in the bank...

Good luck with getting anything off the council. They will no doubt tell you housing lists are long, you are not a priority, and fob you off with a list of local properties available to rent. Sorry if that's not what you want to hear but I have first hand experience of it with my local council.

There's nothing available here for renting. It's a small town and flats/bedsits are few and far between. And I don't know anybody looking for housemates either.

Yeah Gumtree, local papers, newsagents, supermarkets (the little business cards)

Speak to your work maybe, see if you can stay there for a couple of weeks in lieu of rent or something?

If you genuinelly have nowhere to go then explain to your parents, no decent parents will let their offspring sleep on the street. Girlfriends house perhaps?

Search for your area and what you can afford, if your working 40+ hours even on minimum wage, you should be able to afford somewhere to rent.
