Argh 360's have blown my last nerve! Warning rant inside.

Mine is still going strong - had it for years now. Only trouble is it's a UK edition but I live in the States now. Not all games are region free :(

Even after that many failures, I would still rather have a 360 over a PS3 :o

Unlucky though whichever way you look at it, I've had a 360 since launch day and only ever had one console RROD, which even then I fixed myself.

@ hilly
Gutted for you mate that is some real bad luck.
Personally I woul ring them again & explain how many systems you have had & how the last Dude wasn't helpful etc
I am quite confident in Microsofts attitude towards 360 owners & think that you just got through to the wrong bloke.
Try again & stick with the 360 you know you Love it really ;)

By the way I think mine is about to die as when I turn it on it struggles to find the controller & doesn't start properly about 50% of the time. I'll just return mine though as my house wouldn't be the same without a 360 in it.

Don't want this to come off the wrong way but it never ceases to amaze me how many people talk about being on their 3rd, 4th, 7th+ Xbox and don't seem that put off by them?

At what point do you just call it a day and buy something else or give up entirely? Is the warranty procedure that smooth that people don't mind having to dick about unplugging everything, packaging it up, sending it off, etc. Having zero confidence in a product and having to go through that procedure over and over would just drive me insane.

In our house we have a 360 and PS3 in the lounge and a 360 in my sons room. The 360 in the lounge as been replaced 4 times due to RROD and I'm currently on an Elite since launch. My sons 360 as been replaced 3 times due to RROD and he is currently on the older 20GB premium so should imagine that will need replacing soon.

However I have a launch day 60GB PS3 that as never skipped a beat and unlike the 360's i never fear powering the PS3 up!

I would never get rid of the 360's because i have invested too much in games for them but if i was looking at buying my first and only console of this generation, without doubt i would go for the PS3 especialy now as the PS3 is starting to come into it's own with games like KZ2.

To be honest, after my 4th going, I'd had enough and simply sent it off for repair and selling it the day it came back to a work colleague.

Was never tempted for a PS3 at the time and had the Wii to fall back on, but after about 2 months of not enjoying online gaming I went out and purchased another.

Up until the weekend I had two on my desk, one a Core, one an Arcade and about 2 week ago purchased an Elite, sold one Arcade and gave the Core to a friends daughters.

Yeah I am peeved off at the failure rate, but can't think of any other way of saying this other than the enjoyment I get from the Console, the controller, the games, the online action, etc, etc makes up for the hassle.

I guess that explains it well enough, I guess it's a testament to how strong the Xbox & Xbox Live experience is that people will go through this sort of hassle.

When my launch day 360 RROD'd, which was intermittent, I had it repaired, then traded it in for a 175W Falcon Elite, a lot of my mates did the same thing, and all have been faultless since..

I know you shouldn't have to, but surely if you are one of the unlucky repeat RRODers, trading it in for a newer model should dramatically improve things?

Just as a side note, of the 20 or so people I know with Falcon 360's and PS3's, the PS3's are starting to fail more then the 360's, 2 360's have been returned due to DVD issues, 4 of the PS3's have failed for heat or BR issues..

I stuck with it initially because I have spent so much money on extras that I couldn't be arsed changing. I think if the PS3 had been on the shelf after I had my 360 go wrong twice in the first few months I would have changed over.

As it stands I bought another one as a spare for when the first one goes belly up. As crazy as that is, it's the only way I can pretty much guarentee I wont be without a console for a week to a month.

I do have zero confidence in the console but in reality I don't think about it when I switch it on or worry about it. When it happens I deal with it.

I dont know why people still seem to think it's because of miss-use when they fail. We all know there is a massive lack of quality in build and design with the xbox 360.

Indeed.

Sure, if you don't keep it well ventilated you may bring on the inevitable sooner, but in all honesty they are basically a ticking time bomb, especially the original chipset.

Falcon's still fail, but in my experience out all the consoles I deal with they don't seem as bad as the original boards. When Falcon's fail it's usually E74 rather than RROD. Will be interesting to see how the Jaspers fare.

I'm actually considering getting another console as a backup. I've been looking at prices and seeing if it's feesable. I think I'm mad!

Malc, I might just phone them up again, the last experience has just left a sour taste in my mouth, before that however, the experience was always good.

Or, I could just get a PS3, upgrade my TV and enjoy the blueray capabilities.... hmmmm

I hate when people say; "OH CLEARLY you didn't keep it well ventilated enough if it's failed more than once/twice"

Seriously do these people work for Microsoft?

I'm on my 4th box, 5 of my real life friends' 360s have died, my 1 year old 360 I used about 5 hrs each week RROD'ed, the refurb they sent me lasted a total of 20 minutes

It's a piece of crap, but I love the games too much to let go, damn double edged sword.

On the other hand I've dealt with launch-day consoles that were mired with dust and clearly very poorly ventilated, and yet were still working perfectly (opened them up to, um, 'tweak' the DVD drive ;) )

The thing is though a launch day console will be stuffed with dust, especially if it's well ventilated. I would love to be able to break my case every 3 months or so and give it a clean as I would my pc.

My kast turnaround took a little over a week Hilly. They just send out a refurb in a new case.

I have a launch day console and is still going strong, i have always had it horizontal (dont know if this makes any difference) it is well ventilated and always has been. Must just be pot luck as some people have said.

Xbox customer services have been awful in my experiences, although I have have only even spoken with Xbox Live services. They could learn a thing or two from Sony who have been very helpful on the several occasions I phoned them. They're superb.
