Watchmen

I saw this tonight at the IMax at Waterloo. A great film. I loved it and the soundtrack was fantastic. Yes it's a "comic book" film but also so much more.

Sorry but how is the soundtrack fantastic in any way?

It's like a first year student film where they have just shoved some song they like over the top without even considering if it compliments the visuals.

Sure All Along the Watchtower and Hallelujah are great songs but did they work within the context of this film?

For me a big fat no.

When you think about the time in which the film is set, they become very culturally relevant. I personally loved it, but then again my mate and his girlfriend had similar thoughts to you about Hallelujah.

I was also at the Imax last night and, tbh, was quite disappointed by the movie. It just didn't grip me in anyway - I thought the acting was nothing too special, the story not really that exciting, the end a massive anti-climax and the action far too sparse.

I would probably give it a 5/10, if I was being generous and would not recommend it for the cinema....but watchable for home.

They're used in the comic. So in that sense, the soundtrack was good.

But generally, aside from the songs they used, the actual score (if you can call it that) was rubbish. Like something from a Japanese manga.

All Along the Watchtower was superb in the movie, I thought.

I also thought the choice of music was poor. Some Nine Inch Nails tracks would have been perfect. It felt like they were brainstorming song ideas and thought "Watchmen", "Watchtower... that sounds similar lets throw All Along the Watchtower in!".

OK saw it tonight, very long and a blue penis flopping around the place, quite enjoyed it, but no nothing of the comic, so will have a google in a min,

quick questions..

what was with the mask on the angry ginger dude? did it do or mean something?

did anyone of them have super powers apart from the blue naked man? cos they seemed strong but almost trained rather than 'super'

and in the comic was the comedian and the others we saw at the start big characters?

It explains where this came from in the comic - also it's been spoken about that the mask was either white or black, never grey showing the objective way Rorschach saw the world - right, or wrong - nothing inbetween.

Further up I discussed where the mask came from (I think).

That is a major point about the film, that they don't have superpowers. Only Dr. Manhattan was a superpower.

They were the Minutemen, the predecessors to the Watchmen - who were more accepted by society.

thanks for the info mate, interesting about the mask

not quite sure what to make of it, i did enjoy the film just can't quite put my finger on it, i think people should reaad up on the comic first or at least the wiki and gather some basic info.

I completely agree. I saw Watchmen last weekend and found it a little confusing until the master plan was revealed towards the end. Was it about introducing the characters? Was it about someone trying to kill them off? Was it about war? Obviously it was about all three but not knowing anything about it beforehand left me a little bemused.

However, I did enjoy it nontheless and will probably seek out the novel.

Just been watching this at the flicks and while not an absolute classic it was entertaining, so job done, especially for a 3 hour long film.

The girl in it is hot but that costume was poor fitting.... damn near seen her growler a few times! :D
