NEC LCD24WMGX3 Professional Gaming 24" Widescreen

I have a question.

Since I switched to HDMI instead of DVI (connected to my GTX280 via convertor), when I go to nVidia control panel, there is some resolution tab (the one where you can set interpolation). And there is listed what is the native resolution for the screen - and it is 1920*1080 ? Eventhough it is *1200 and I have it set ? Is this normal because HDMI considers as native 1080p no matter what?

Also, I can no longer change there how should the monitor interpolate picture (with DVI I could choose).

And last but not least, now, when by PC boots up, also in BIOS, the picture is smaller and centered in the middle of the screen, using resolution 1080p - with DVI it was streched to the whole screen using probably 640*480.

All of this is probably completely normal, but I never used HDMI before and just want to make sure. All games and windows and everything works without problems : ).

Just tried fear 2 again , its soooo bad ruins the game. I'll try NEC again if no joy it's going back. Compared to my previous monitor ( samsung 206 bw ) the picture quality is great. Fingers crossed. What sort of question;s were you asked when you phoned VIRUS2K. Thanks.

they ask you what your model and serial numbers are.
you can get that from the pannel if you press the display button on the remote.
then they ask you whats wrong with your screen.

if there willing ect to replace ect, tell them could you have the replacment they sent tested for backlight bleed/dead pixels.

thats it, ohh they also want your name/address/telephone numbers ect but you already new that lol :P

You have to change the AV aspect Ratio in the pannel to get FULL SCREEN bios ect ;)
check your manual for expantion mode to enable aspect ratio changeing if its greyed out.

try forceing 1920x1200 by going into your display settings
right click on the desktop persionalization/display settings/advanced settings tab/monitor tab/ untick hide modes that this monitor cant display.

then press apply then ok, now you should on the slider get a extra resolution change to 1920x1200.

You probably misunderstood me - I can select 1200, in fact I use it both in windows and in all games ! (except GTA4, where 1680*1050 looks better and runs better).

It is just that in nVidia panel, the "native" res is listed as 1080, eventhough it should be 1200 (which I have selected anyway).

As far as AV aspect ratio - I have selected "PC".

And expansion mode - I have a feeling that one is unuseable with THROUGH mode ON, which I use...

As I said, I have no problem with the screen and everything works as it should, I was just wondering why does it list 1080p as native in nVidia control panel : ).

you probably have to add that resolution to nvidias control pannel via the custom resolutions pannel.

if i remember correctly thats how i did it back in the day with my 8800GTX.

I am going to post my HDMI definitive Optimization for this pannel tonight with the best possible picture and optimization possible with the best blacks and white grey saturatione ect.

stay tuned ;)

got my nec today to replace the dell 2408wfp that i bought last week, (the dell went back today), i freaking love it!!!!! so much nicer that the dell!!

Not what i wanted as a first post. Just received this monitor and it has a large say roughly 1mm in diameter white dead pixel against a black backround. Tried some games like fear 2 and its really noticeable. Tried phoning NEC but there help desk closes at 5 pm. Overclockers are saying 5 dead pixels are required before they will replace it ( there is about 5 other problem pixels but they are not as bad ). I like the monitor so would just like it replaced, what annoy's me is i'm sure the box had already been opened, the dead pixel spotted and the monitor returned. So i bought the monitor to replace a Samsung with a dead pixel and cannot put up with another one. Where do i go from here phone NEC again, is the serial number all i'll need ? Thanks.

can't you send it back to overclockers, Buying online is covered under distance selling regulations, dont you get 7 days to return it,and then buy it from somewhere else.

Yes returning it to overclockers was an option, NEC have agreed to replace it though. I've got to say there support is very good, this is my second NEC monitor and it wont be the last. Apart fron the large white pixel it's a very good panel. Played FEAR 2 last night and its unplayabe with a torch shinning in your eye's. Nec are collecting the old one and dropping off a new one on tuesday.

I have to send pics also. Apparently their policy is only within a certain distance of the centre for white pixels, which would explain why ViRuS2k got his replaced without quibble.

Nessy, can you put a pic up of your defective area please?

From the centre of the screen about 2 inches directly too the left, i have read all the stuff about the amount of pixels aloud on a panel and my previous monitor had a dead pixel but it was'nt noticeable. There is no way anyone who uses this forum would have excepted that panel with a bright white pixel near the centre. There has to be an answer to this lottery of buying panels. This particular monitor is sold as a gaming monitor, so should have very few defects if any. If we stopped buying these for fear of panel defects i bet the manufactures would find a way to sell these blemish free. How many of us order panels and get that nervous feeling, i know i do.

dont forget, i also had a dead pixel at the top right of the screen, bright blue on a dark background ;)

though the more i use this replacment i got, brand new no dead pixels, no backlight bleed no ghosting, movies are full of awsomeness.

i wont be buying another TN pannel EVER EVER AGAIN :)

im thoroughly impressed. not only that but nECs tech support is one of the best i have ever come across, and the viewing angles, dont get me started on that one, ultra awsomeness.

They aren't going to replace mine, said it wasn't enough of a fault being only a single pixel. I will have to live with it in dark games and movies, the rest of the time in light screens it doesn't really bother me.

Sorry to hear that, I had the phantom delivery man today. Stayed in all day camped behind the front door and waited, but still i missed him. James bond could learn a thing or two from these couriers. Really why cant they phone and say they are'nt going to make it instead of saying you were not in and you were carded when you were not. So were was your pixel TLH and why not RMA it.

lol nessy :P

all you have to do is phone the courior and ask them i they can pass a message on to there driver or ask to speak to the driver
and they should put you right though.

they did for me :/ lol

True , but what i was implying was that there was no delivery atempt at all. No card no delivery atempt. Happens all the time to me, had to phone NEC to find out who the courier was as at the time they did'nt know. Looking forward to eventually enjoying this monitor. Have been using a 20 inch again and it just feels cramped now, strange how it felt fine before.

Hi guys
well I have just pulled the trigger on this panel so what can I expect going from a top of the range 17" Illyama CRT Monitor that was 10 years old and cost me 600 quid

the monitor has been brillant but has died so been reading a lot of these threads and this NEC seems to be getting some good things said about it

must add that tis will be my first Flat panel for the PC

fingers crossed for no dead pixels

Chris
