My Golf - Update thread

Yep, You are effectively increasing the spring rate.
This is why it is not called an anti-dive bar, no one is even claiming they help in this regard, as mentioned an ARB increase rather than spring stiffness helps with ride quality

effectively increasing the spring rate, but only with regard to lateral movements

Anyway.......

Time to bring this thread back on track.

A common and effective mod with 8v owners is to replace the bottom end with a 2.0 bottom end from the 8v MK3 GTI, combined with some headwork on the Mk2 head you can net around 145bhp with a nice gob of torque to match. So I was having a browse on god old ebay, and I just picked up a complete Mk3 2.0 engine for the princely sum of........

..........£2.37p :D :D

Plan is to throw it on an engine stand at the back of the garage and build it up bit by bit when I get spare time/money. I'll get hold of another Mk2 8v PB head so I can build the 2.0 up without having to take my car off the road. Tempted to throw bike carbs on it too......

Hence reducing roll... What are you arguing again?

reducing body roll is a biproduct of its primary role, which is to alter the handling balance of a vehicle.

ie drexel added his to sharpen up the front end and reduce understeer, not because his wing mirrors were touching the ground when her cornered

Yes, I added it to reduce understeer/increase oversteer. Less bodyroll is a by-product of what I wanted to achieve.

As interesting as this argument is, can we keep the thread on track now?

Pedant mode on:

The primary role is to increase rear end stiffness, the biproduct of this stiffness increase is moving the neutral point. This then alters the handling balance.

I dont really know why you have gone into such a pedantic arguement in the first place, when all it has done is shown that you don't really understand vehicle dynamics.

This is a thread about Antiroll bars isn't it :P

you just cant leave alone can you ?

lol

the day you leave a car untouched drexel is the day i don my tin foil hat and head for the cupboard under the stairs, as the four horsemen of the apocalypse cant be far behind.

So true :o

In my defence, this is going to be a strictly low budget affair, in keeping with the reason I bought the car in the first place.

Not specifically, it's a thread about the progress of my Golf, the ARB was just the first mod ;) :p

arbs can be uprated on the front and back.... so its primary role isnt to increase rear end stiffness. im not being pedantic, youre posts are just vague

oh behave and grow up. your just being an **** when theres no need. You're the one that started this argument with the WRONG statement. Trying to take over from fox as ocuks resident most argumentative are we ?

LMAO, quite a nice jump you find when going from Honda to ANother i guess :D

Oh Jebus, I hope your little innocent Golf knows what it's in for :p

A popular upgrade for the EP3 is to fit the JDM rear ARB but I als owant to get it on 35-30mm springs with a fast road setup first.

not at all, i contributed to the thread and had to correct some inconsistent/vague replies. nothing personal (not that im saying fox's arguementative posts are personal, before anyone else gets in a fluster)

lol at above, the only vague and inconsistent replies were your own!

Enough troll feeding though. Nice car Drex!

I guess you wont be modifying the handling to the extent of the rx7 which looked like it cornered on rails, but would probably kill you on a bumpy road.

I am being 'vague' on purpose, it is quite evident that you do not understand vehicle dynamics. If you did understand them you would not find my posts vague.
