That looks like a juction box to me.

the white thing is a jb (junction box) does the same job as a CHOC BOX.

Connector blocks are often referred to as "chock blocks" and they fit neatly inside a "choc box".

Good grief, stay away from electrical fittings.

That is a ceiling rose, there is usually a a piece of flex coming out of the hole in the top. It does look like an existing light fitting has been removeed but the cabling left in place.

It's the hallway of my basement flat, I don't think it's a junction box, that picture is overexposed and doesn't show the hole in the middle of it. You can however see the dimple where the hole is in the second picture

I think it is an old ceiling light thing where you can dangle the wire through the middle, it looks the same as some of the live ceiling light things (sorry don't know what they're actually called)

Yeah after reading SB118's reply, and re-looking, it isn't a juction box. The flash hides the hole.

So I'm guessing the lights have been replaced with their own switches?
