The *Official* Eve Online Thread

Hello everyone, Long time Lurker, first time poster.

Thought my first post should be made in this Thread as all ive been playing lately is Eve. A few questions first off, I'm currently flying a Rupture which is breezing through most(Blockade ) L2 missions at the moment but im wondering what the next step is in terms of an upgrade? Im not sure how far away I am from level 3 missions so is it worthwhile just upgrading my gear as its all T1 at the moment, or getting a new ship?

I've ammased about 25M Isk so far so I was thinking i would also buy a small cheap ship to try my hand at PvP, something preferebly cheap to fit, is the Rifter a good idea?

See you in space :D

Rifter would make a good cheap pvp ship, as you'll lose lots of ships to start. I guess the Thrasher would also be relatively good, and might help better at taking out other frigates.

Regarding PVE, you could probably upgrade to a Hurricane Battlecruiser, it'll provide more damage and a lot more tank.

Hi there Lovegun. I tend to change to the next tier missions when the agents are wanting to talk to me, maybe do one or two more missions to get the rep to a round number then move on. Have to keep your connections skill up too, they like you more that way. But, and this is a BIG BUT, just because you can do lvl 3's, doesnt mean the ship your in can lol.. takes more skills and better guns / shield / armour to move up a level. That being said, its alos nice to get a lot more isks for your time and trouble too.

Give us a wave if you fly past :)

Id go for a hurricane next, youll need it for level 3's, you can shield tank or armor tank a cane. Its a better choice over a cyclone in my opinion.

As for PVP, get some freinds and gab a rifter. I wouldnt bother solo its a waist of time and money, you will die.

Cheers Colinuk, how much harder are L3s compared to L2s?

Not sure, doing lvl 2's myself at the mo lol.... i use to help out a corp mate with lvl 4's , needed a well fitted abbandon to help him out with 2 tech 2 large armour repairers, so i guess lvl3's will hit twice as hard as anything in lvl2's?

Did lvl4's for some navy corp, but to get R&D agents, had to start again from lvl 1's lol.... now im upto lvl 2's. But i only play at weekends too.

Joining the OcUK channel is a good idea, good info in there and if your stuck, good place to shout out.

Ive read briefly through this thread and seem rather interested EVE. How easy is it for a new player to get into the game? How long does it take to be able to fly a ship that is capable of pirating or mining efficantly?

Pirating...about two days. Any frigate class ship will do perfectly. I hear the Rifter is particularly good. Basics are weapons, scrambler and a webber to pin your target down and kill him. :p (Have a look on the EVE forums called a video called "The CCP Test").

Mining is a different ballgame. "Effectively" can mean many different things...if you're just joining the game you can mine "effectively" from the start. As you get more skilled and get more money you'll buy bigger ships which need larger cash flows...but by then you'll hopefully be able to fly a larger mining ship too.

what would be an ideal route for a new player, i cant really decide if i want to pirate or mine to begin with. I know this is probally the million dollar question, but is there a best path to choose as a new player?

Pirating quite can be quite expensive, especially when starting out. You're going to lose a good amount of ships! So you could probably use a bankroll. Mine for a bit first perhaps, get a few million ISK'ies under your belt.

The thing about EVE is nothing is irreversable when you're first starting. Not to mention you're never far away from training for something else, in fact the tutorial is designed to introduce you to all the main aspects of EVE (Combat, mining, etc).

Best advice is to give it a go. :)

maybe a scary thought but most people i know now who play eve, have two accounts. One is the main isks maker, mining, mission running, buy/sell ect, the other is the pirate aka, fun with frigs, account that when it needs isks to replace the ships blown up in training, gets the isks from your main :)

Or maybe thats just how i work lol..

I do everything with one character. :D He does everything from PvP to mission running, mining and refining, to manufacturing and research.

My primary ISK makers are mining/refining and mission running though...I don't find PvP profitable, it's funded by my other ventures. :)

Aren't BS losses like minimal anyway, with the way Insurance works losing a battleship results in only a few million lost. Ofcourse losing T2 is where it hurts.

Hmm insurance 72 mil or 172 mil (ive forgotten already...

Cost to put a new one together 300 + million !!!

Over double that (800 mil) if you use T2 rigs)

I usually put em together for about 200m.

3x T1 trimarks, all mods and guns T2, other than solace remote rep and "internal force field array" which are when I don't have enough CPU (prices for these 2 modules are through the rooof.)

Losing a HAC would be worse, not happened yet though. :)
