The *Official* Eve Online Thread

After installing Eve Mon and picking a ship i want, i ultimately see how long it takes to gain levels. In this case its 67days to complete all the levels.

Hi, I'm going to start EVE in about 2-3 months, and have gotten through 2 trial accounts.

You guys seem pretty experienced, so I'd like you to reccomend a race to specialise in for the first few months of my training. I tried to do this myself, but couldn't chose. My Caldari player was created before March 10th and has 1 mil SP.

Now, what i love to do, is PvP. PvE is all good and well, but i really crave pvp.
I want to be able to fleet pvp, but not be dependant on it. I also want to be able to be able to fly battleships that are good in solo and fleet, even though I know BS's rarely pvp solo. I was leaning towards Gallente, but the blaster range put me off. It's kind of my target to be able to kill an abaddon of a similarly aged player. Just a basic PvP fit. I wouldnt mind amarr, but, if anyone could tell me how to get over the range problem of the Gallente, it'd be much appreciated. I'm kinda ruling out minimatar, due to their BS's. Im not sure how well caldari do in pvp, so ill leave them as a choice. As a final requirement, I'd also like there to be like, one, two decent small ships for pvp (BS and below)

So, could anyone tell me what class would suit my play style?

Again, thanks for all the answers people.

1600mm Reinforced Steel Plates II increases the armor health point by 4200. When activated does that mean whatever armor health points you already have (say 2000) will than have an extra 4200 .. . .so 6200 total armor points for how ever long it lasts?? (30 seconds or something like that)

Stop being such a girl and go Gallente :p

Then train thermodynamics so you can overload your MWD and web/scram and you're golden.

Armour plate doesnt activate, it just increases your armour by (4200)

OK i understand now. The downfall being massive power requirements with 575 MW.

If a ship has 4 missile hardpoints, doesnt that mean it already has 4 missile launchers installed????

Would they take up MW as well?

:P

I'd like some more opinions, but ill take that in mind.

Well, Caldari are great for PVE but by and large a bit shafted when it comes to PvP (not entirely, but compared to the other races). Minmatar are extremely skill intensive because you need armour/shield/gun/missile/drone skills. Probably due a buff at some point but currently a lot fo their ships ar eunderpowered. Amarr are good, nice range of ships, lasers look cool. Recently got a bit of a buff and currently flavour of the month.

Gallente get pretty awesome ships in just about every class (bar maybe recons), strong tanks, incredible dps, plus some very useful utility boats like the Domi. Drones give you an extra level of flexibility in terms of ranged engagements, ewar and damage types. You can pretty much guarantee that a Gallente specced pilot will always be good for PvP, whilst the other races tend to go up and down with balance changes.

Sounds good.

Im waiting until after June, so I got a bit of time to decide. Just playing around with ideas atm. It's just i was looking through EVEMON at blasters yesterday and was quite dismayed at the blaster range, which put me off a bit.

As neil says, MWDs make blasters worth it. Plus most of the time you will land close to targets as combat happens at points of interest, gates etc. With the MWD you can get into range nice and fast in most ships. Put a web on there and they are not getting away very fast at all.

Not had much time to play eve much apart from updating my market orders on my alts. Need to get some wormholes scanned down and get my pvp on.

To get an idea for shield/power armor number.

Is Shield Capacity 1393 HP a lot? Armor Hitpoints 2,088 HP a lot?

If this is a lot, would there be any point in upgrading their capacity?

Pretty much impossible to answer that without knowing more about what you're trying to do. But no, that's not a lot in the grand scheme of things.

Remember that resistances/shield recharge/shield bosters/armour repairers are also important when it comes to tanking, depending on your setup.

Nokinidea- yup, me too.

As the others said, with MWD it's not an issue. But I still find that in fleet, I'm often better with rails, they don't do as much damage but they do it more often. Got kind of sick of the primary being out of range... Depends on the size of your fight though, it really comes into its own in blobbier fights because when things lag it becomes much harder to keep things in the right range. But YMMV of course, it could be I'm just no good at blastering :D I use blasters with my Astarte, it'd be kind of a shame not to really, but my deimos just seems so much more useful with rails- the cut in DPS doesn't usually make the huge difference a lot of people think IMO. Solo, DPS is more important of course but in fleet, it's better to have 5 ships doing moderate DPS than it is to have 3 ships doing lots and 2 out of range.
