Would you SLAP your child..?

when i was younger in my twenties i would smack my children across their bum or back of their legs but as i grew older and more experienced in bringing up children i soon learn't that smacking them isn't really required and there would be plenty of other ways that you could discipline your children when required

It might not even be as far as that. If a kid pushes a boundary and isn't put back in line it's gonna push further and further.

And what, you think slapping a child is the answer if he or she's goes to far? I disagree, I think it's only lazy parents who can't be bothered to investigate more humane forms of discipline that hit their kids and it's mainly their children that end up deliquent.

You think that disciplining a child for running out into the road by smacking their bum will push the child into delinquency?

You're the typical dooms day monger that breeds this sort of thinking.

Slap your childs bottom is going to turn a child into a deliquent? Not likely.

Problem with a lot of people is they see punishing a child with a slap, and they instantly think someone is trying to beat the crap out of a kid, and so the kid has to end up a full fledged sociopath.

No, It's down to the parent to see a line, And the line is not to abuse, but to punish.

Unfortunately some people can't be trusted with seeing the line that seperates abuse and punishment. And thats why there are laws set in place, and social services get involved often now.

I would have no problem smacking the bottom of my child, or my childs hand. I would never, Hit anywhere else. And after a certain age, I believe other means of punishment would be better, Such as taking away things they like.

not really the child then associates that action with pain, like training a lion.

they don't really have the mental capacity and memory to cope with complex ideas of right and wrong and stick to them with no real deterrence.
 
A gentle smack on a childs bottom never hurt anyone did it? This modern psychological experiment in treating children like they are an adult has probably resulted in the society you see today.

What makes you think smacking him/her will stop them doing it again? Without wanting to get overly personal it sounds like a panic reaction, not constructive discipline.

And for goodness sake, some of you need to learn some originality instead of trying to back your point up with the tired old "It's not wonder our society is DOOMED!" (when in actual fact it's not really any different to when I was a child many years ago).

Millions of parents bring up their children without the need to smack them.

Its amazing that you can tell who has no experience in being a parent when reading certain posts.

Comparing bringing up children to training a lion is just laughable.

I never smacked my eldest but tell me perfect parent - how would you have dealt with my youngest who took great pleasure in running out onto the road?
Even though we had reins on her, sometimes we would be in a situation where it was like a duck to water and it was hard to stop her.
About 7 smacks in total over a short period soon cured her of not getting killed.
Personally I'm glad I smacked the back of those legs because she's still with us.

Perhaps you should keep a better eye on your children rather than letting them run amok and then giving them a slap for your own carelessness? *shrug*
