NEC LCD24WMGX3 Professional Gaming 24" Widescreen

Fantastic Monitor

Just got one of these from OC, arrived 8.30am next day which is excellent service. The box wasnt tape sealed at all but no marks or finger prints found anywhere, and no stuck pixels either .

The screen is fantastic, watched Aliens Vs Predator DVD via Xbox HDMI - picture looked superb and very pleased with the blacks / dark picture quality. Xbox 360 linked in fine and is set to 1080p mode - you get a slight black crop at the top + bottom due to the 1200 to 1080 drop, but if you set it to Throughput mode the bands are reduced to almost nothing. Colours are great and everything is very sharp.
My 8800 GTX struggled a little to supply high frame rates with the huge resolution, Hawx and Crysis looked really nice at 24" size and the colours were amazing. My only complaint was the stand only raises it to 65mm high which is slightly too low so I needed a book underneath. Havent seen a Dell 2408 to compare but the extra wide gamut put me off.

Overall i'm very impressed and recommend this screen, there are so many OSD options you could spend hours tinkering to get the picture quality you want.

I purchased this screen from OC last Friday. Like most of you guys, I received mine already opened and was clearly used (box was also badly damaged). Even though OC agreed to replace the screen after requesting photos, I'd ran out of patience waiting for the ok and went through NEC instead. I have to say, I've never come across such an excellent and friendly customer service. The monitor arrived this morning less than 24 hours after the exchange was confirmed by the NEC rep - couldn't believe it and the screen is perfect too.

I'm annoyed at OC for sending out a used screen, but credit to them for firstly refunding part of the delivery charge after a delivery issue, and agreeing to refund the difference to reflect the new 'special offer' price.

As for the monitor itself, I've done hours of research on just about every 24" monitor out there and I'm very pleased with my decision. I've tried the HP LP2475W, of which the colour wasn't to my liking (even after calibration) and the red/green tint was apparent and annoying. My bro has the highly rated BenQ FP241W, which is a good screen but without the looks and it is an older panel - every other screen I've researched has one or two well documented problems. The NEC will be used mainly for web/graphic design work, but I also wanted something decent for the odd movie/game and it fits the bill perfectly in all aspects, for me at least.

The only con is the stand is extremely awkward to adjust, but it is very stable. It also doesn't go very high which might be an issue for some people. Lastly, I was concerned about the glossy look as I wanted it to look professional, but it's fine.

Very satisfied. :)

For info. My 24WMGX3 also seemed to have been opened. Two layers of tape is a give away! My panel is suffering from banding when displaying a gradient. I have requested an RMA. Back to my trusty 20WGX2. I don't know why I changed in the first place???

This seems to be a common occurence.

I received mine yesterday. The box was a little battered but couldnt say if the box had been opened before or not. The screen seems fine although I havnt had much time to check it over fully yet. The HDMI lead however had been repacked as it had been re-taped up. Makes you wonder if the price is so good because they are returns?

My box was never taped when i got mine as well. But i've used it for over 3 days now and i can't spot any dead pixels. I have not tried any black light test but will have to give it a go before making my decision.

All of the accessories was taped up and the monitor came in its original packaging but still it wasn't taped up. Just looking over the packaging and there are not adhesive marks to indicate if there was any sticky tape....

As Mattup said above, the give away on my HDMI bag was the fact that there was 2 layers of tape. One broken strip where it had obviously been opened and then re-taped back up.

But that doesn't explain why some forum members receive units that looks as though they've been in use before i.e. fine hair line scratches on the bezel (caused by using a non lint free cloth) and other cables that's been out of their packaging only to be resealed in a rushed manner.

Still contemplating on whether i should buy... :(

You'll be lucky. I've had two NEC's from OC and they've both been faulty. And it's like getting blood from a stone to get OC to respond as quick as they take your money and collect said faulty goods!

Well I bit the bullet as well and have ordered 2 of these beasts, so I am crossing everything I have that they are perfect. If there not then I will be mighty upset.

Finally caved in... arrrrrrrrrrrrrghhh.. :p Yup, just orderd. ~*crosses fingers for a mint condition screen* :D

Thanks :) Let us know if you get any problems.
