UEFA Champions League QF L1 - 7/8 April ***Spoilers***

I suppose i shouldn't be suprised with the Utd result and performance. On paper they're miles better than Porto and Porto are **** away from home but Utd defending in recent weeks is laughable. Should be an interesting 2nd leg. Porto are excellent at home but i still fancy Utd to pinch it.

Hopefully they keep up this form for a few more weeks though.

Open your eyes

You've been playing awful for weeks, your defence looks atrocious, you've been outplayed tonight, Porto have never been beaten by an English team on home soil and they're unbeaten in all competitions since November...

dont need to open my eyes haha, if your talking about porto players im sure they will also be thinking about the quality we have in the squad!, your basicaly writing us off, You open your eyes, as i said, next week we will see :)

Do be quiet, if liverpool were in this position you'd be fully pointing out that the best player in the world ever Gerrard will score 4 goals agaisnt them away. Man United are a better side than Porto and hopefully this will be shown next week, if it isn't oh well but I'm damn sure we will win more silverware the Red scousers.

Terrible again tonight, third match running we've come out looking timid and unambitious, absolutely disgraceful attitude for a Champions League Quarter Final. Rooney and Ronaldo were good tonight, Tevez took his finish very well and other than an early **** up O'shea played better than usual, especially going forward. Scholes and Giggs were both crap, Scholes in particular I lost count of his misplaced passes. Fergie should have started with a more attacking line up, just Rooney and Ronny is not the attitude we should be taking at home. Doesn't help that we have so many defensive injuries at the moment and the back 4 is changing every game, looks like Evans is out for a bit now as well :(

I think a lot of people underestimated Porto on here, they have a good team and they were excellent tonight, Hulk and Lopez are really dangerous up front. it was a great game despite our poor quality, great to see two teams really going for it, not seen such an open game at this stage for a long time.

omg

All he said was that Porto are favourites and with the way you're playing and Porto's home form, it's hardly that big a statement.

Evans, O'shea and Park are simply not good enough at this level.

paul scholes is losing it

Fletcher is hit and miss, and lets face just simply not that talented.

Carrick seems to have lost his form big time.

Tevez needs to learn how to control a ball and stop it bouncing a mile into the distance of his knee

Ronaldo,Rooney, Vidic and VDS were the only players worthy of wearing a United shirt tonight.

good to watch maybe but yet again our midfield is not turning up allowing the opposition to turn defence in to attack far too quickly.

The Arsenal game was literally end to end for 90 minutes, most open game I've seen since the Fener game in the group stages.

Fletcher was apart from Rooney our best player and should have been shifted into the middle after about 5 minutes. Paul Scholes (my favourite ever player) is finnished at that level, he sadly just doesn't have the legs to get around.

I agree with you about Tevez but he scores vital goals. Ronaldo was pretty poor, he seems to be constantly looking for fouls instead of just running past defenders as he did last season.

I don't know what Wenger said during half-time but it worked. Arsenal were a completely different team. I noticed that Song quietened down compared to the first half - I was genuinely worried he was about to be sent off!

All those yellow shirts constantly trying to con the ref too? It's disgusting. The Spanish teams seem to be getting as bad as the Italians for it.

Fantastic goal from Abe, I just wish we saw more from Nasri. Slightly disappointed that Fab isn't playing his best, but his set-up was still superb! I do wonder how Ashavin would've shaped the game though and I'm glad we didn't see too much input from Pieres. :p

Only one thing annoyed me about the goal: ITV4 missed it as they were playing the damn re-run. The look on Villa's keeper's face though was absolutely priceless. Two truly fantastic goals in that game. That goal from Villa though certainly reminded me of Bentley's goal a while back.

Have to say too, I really enjoy the commentary of whoever that bloke is. :p

yeh Tevez's goal scoring ability does counter his terrible control somewhat.

I still feel Ronaldo is a constant threat even when he doesnt play his best though.

I just think United have a few to many weak links in their squad. I really want to see them buy a few top quality players this summer.

Villarreal are particularly bad, were terrible against us. Not a coincidence it's been since Pires went there as well :p

The ref was a bit handy with his cards (Fab and Nasri), but overall he played a good game. I don't think he fell for any of their other antics once.

and how many times have they played English oponants at home recently - a handful at most

Not really that many games to go off really - stat is meaningless

It will still be a tough game and they are capable of winning without doubt, but that stat is still basically meaningless

Man Utd havent been beaten in 22 games in Europe - just as meaningless (as we could go out with a low score draw)

edit - and yet again Ronaldo was guilty for a goal against Utd for just giving up after losing possession

is there a better passer in world football at this time than Cesc??? just a crazy talent in that kid and so calm on the ball even with all the football he has missed this season.

walcott is still the most frustrating player in the arsenal squad by a country mile, please Wenger break the bank and sign Ribery in the summer....i have no faith in Walcott developing further ...sell him while he is still worth something.

great result although we really should have nabbed that 2nd, that would have been a steal after only being 1 down at 1/2 time.

yet again half the forum will call me some rude word or another, but Walcott is an utterly crap winger. Again any/all good work came when someone played him in behind, if he gets the ball with a defender to beat he's a timid little girl. He almost never uses his pace, his first touch was woeful throughout, he simply doesn't pass players, the few crosses he put in were all pathetic. Nasri didn't have a great game but his crosses were by and large high-ish and would dip into the box, Walcotts never beat the first man, ever. He's an utterly hopeless winger but could be a great striker, basically he spends the whole game making runs in behind hoping to get the ball but playing 1 upfront killed it as we rarely had enough people in the box/attacking.

Song and Denilson were terrible again, Song was assured? like when, tackling from behind needlessly, getting yellow carded again, studs in challenges, again. Awful passing and distribution going forwards, poor positionally defensively and as per usual him and Denilson chasing the play rather than getting ahead of their attacks. Denilson never ever marks any runners from midfield and is always late to cover danger and theres your first goal. If you taped it look at the goal and 30 seconds before, he delays his pass forwards for no reason which leaves Clichy stranded and them with the ball. They attack go past him and he barely jogs back. The ball goes across field and Song is marking the man, for no reason Denilson ignores everything around him and ambles over to song leaving a huge stonking gap for Senna, the ball goes out to Senna and Denilson waits, and waits, and waits then finally runs over to him about 45 minutes to late.

ADebayor was utterly crap for 89.9minutes, again. We utterly dominated the second half yet had one real chance on goal, which he scored. He took one other shot that I can remember which was easier, and went about 30 yards wide. He constantly lost the ball, rarely challenged for anything, was on a yellow and still waves his arms around in peoples faces and fouled people needlessly. He also ignored some ridiculously easy paces, a one two with Nasri that would have put him through on goal, then later another one two with Eboue that would have put Eboue on the penalty spot with the ball and again he ignored the pass, lost the ball and threw himself to the floor with no contact, if it was in the box it would likely have been a second yellow, utter tit.

4-5-1 as per usual and we are a woeful attacking team with no movement and no chances being made.

Man United, bar Rooney, were woeful. Park's 58% pass completion made me die a little inside. Fletcher, Carrick and Scholes were horrific. Good luck winning away....

He's a striker. he got one chance and put it away. I'd call it a job well done.

edit: infact it wasn't even a chance he eventually had to use his own skill to produce something which even i will admit was top class. This coming from a chelsea supporter.

+1!

I would prefer him to have been there than Nicklas Bendtner.

Dam straight, but you'll never get that through into DM's skull! He didn't have a great game but was not rubbish either, remember he's coming back after 2 months out injured.

Overall, a so so performance, 1st was meh although what were they thinking sending Gallas back on?

Song is getting better with every game he plays, he'll never be class but does a decent job. So wish we had Arshavin for the CL!

Yellow brigade were a disgrace, bunch of cheating moaning divers (like a team full of Gerards:p). Fans throwing stuff at Cesc when he was taking a corner, should be banned from Europe!
