Fake £1 coins - who's got one?

I've seen numerous fake coins at work and people always get so annoyed when you refuse to accept them, if the colour looks off check the edges. Fake notes people are always like "oh god i got this as cashback i'm so sorry", which is just like, yeah whatever, give me some real money.

I've got one possible fake at the moment, the engravings not as deep or defined as it probably should be. (but then again, i've got £3.17 on me so i don't have much to look at)
Not all fake coins will work in vending machines either.

When I was working at Tesco the self-service tills spat the fake ones back out so I think they should die out quicker than they did... besides who would take their time to fake £1 coins? :D

I'd be a bit ***** off if you were pushing all my pound coins against a table checking for dents :p Why bother checking?
 
I see LOADS at work.

Work at coral bookies btw, like last week on one occasion i had 4 fake ones to 11 real on my tray 0.o.
 
I cashed my change bottle in at the bank in November, I had about £280 in change, everything £1 and under.

Of that £280ish I had £190 in £1 coins all bagged up.

Took them to the bank and not 1 was checked, they just checked the weight of each bag.

Not sure whether that's the case to be fair. Imagine someone trying to pay with a fake £50 note, not sure legally you can return it to them after discovering it's fake, surely you're aiding potential fraud there.
 
Your potentially aiding murder if you give someone a knife as well, that's never a good argument for anything really.

Legally it might not be the case, but you can understand someone being annoyed, I mean fake £1 coins are so widely accepted they're practically legal tender these days.
 
Is this why some £1 coins are not accepted by vending machines?

I hate that and yet I will always try rubbing it on the top or side of the machine. What I expect that to do I'm not sure. Has worked a few times though. :p

Oh I agree, I'd be annoyed. The thing is with a dodgy note you know it's fraudulent right away, with giving someone a knife if you know they're planning to stab someone with it or are covered in blood, then it's probably not a sensible idea :p
