Paying to unlock content - RES5

Just because its using current game assets (maps, images, characters etc) doesn't mean you're downloading a code. That'll be 1.86mb of coding to run 2 teams of 4 and netcode etc. It's a con nonetheless though and I wont be buying it.

It's simple don't pay for any DLC ever in your entire life just like me.

The more people that pay the more games will be made with dlc in mind.

God soon they'll be charging us £40 to buy the game pay for dlc pay for xbox live and pay if we want to play the game online.

GTA add on?

Shivering Isles? ;)

I don't agree with this - some of the DLC does have a lot of work that has been ploughed into it (The fallout 3 DLC etc) and does deserve money.

This however, (The RE5 Versus mode) is taking the mick.

Nope it doesnt offer value for money so I wont get it. I dont begrudge paying for other DLC that is worth it like FIFA UT and GTA4 lost and the damned. Of course I dont like paying for extras like this so I pick and choose.

I rarely pay full wack for a game - most was 29.99 for gears 2 when I wanted to play it that night with mates. I guess when you pick up cheaper copies the extras arent quite so bad.

Either buy it or don't buy it, what is the problem?
Who cares if it was on the disc or from a patch?

I read a lot of stories about the RE5 versus mode that made me decide not to buy it.

Agree. As long as the original game didn't mislead by saying the versus mode was part of it, I don't see the issue.

What you did was pay for a very good single/coop game.

no the reality is that you paid full price for 90% of a finished product, where they purposely withheld the final 10% and made you pay extra for it.

What we are paying for wasnt completed when the game was released, So that's wrong

A Capcom representative said: "Versus mode represents content that was created outside the scope of the original design of Resident Evil 5. This is an all new mode that required additional resources to create, not to mention the additional bandwidth costs."

What puzzles me is the fact that some guy over on the AV forums posted a link to the strategy guide (official Prima one I think, or whoever makes it), and that had information about all the versus modes and gameplay characteristics in each game mode.

This whole DLC thing is becoming to be a **** take.
Look at epic and gears 2 for instance, releasing a map pack a few weeks after launch.Seems obvious the maps could have been shipped with the game but they kept them back to make some more money.
It's become the norm now.

sucks, i remember when completing a game got u new and good stuff, not having to pay money for it:/

seems the developers are simply relying on gfx coders to deliver a platform to monetize through stinging on the original content and selling it as working bare bones at best.

(okay so i did get access to mercenaries and uniform kit on Resi5, im talking about paying to play online?! im talkign costume packs for SF4, Map packs, car packs etc...)

look back to things like Unreal Tournament where map packs were given free to the community as a "thank you" for continuing to play our game that you paid out for... as opposed to saying "%$"& you" and going on to charge for basic content that should clearly not cost each time its paraded out...

I find myself buying fewer games for the PS3 and XBOX and instead Investing more in to PC gaming because of this obvious DLC scam on consoles.

Map packs and DLC etc. were free until the advent of closed systems (XBOX and PS3) and how do they repay us for buying there software? by ripping us off! they could never do this to any great success on the PC.

Wish everyone would just stop buying DLC and any game that requires it to be a complete experience (RE5)

Something else that annoys me is that companies always they have a "big announcement" for one of their games, and it turns out to be DLC that you have to pay for.Whoopee!

No - if they decided that the game was 100% finished as a single player experience + co-op mode, then the game is 100% finished, and they sold you a 100% finished game.

Just because there was other stuff developed, doesn't mean that the released game wasn't finished - if a band records 12 tracks but only puts 10 of them on an album, it doesn't mean the album's not finished does it.

Edit - Oh and why does everyone keep saying they 'make you' pay for the DLC? No they don't, YOU decide to either buy it or not. If they released a game that you couldn't finish without £DLC, then I'd have sympathy for your point of view - but this is plainly not the case.
