Been ID for buying Alcohol at 26

Actually, i was half expected to get ID yesterday after work in my suit buying a bottle of vodka...but i didn't, kinda disappointed about that :(

The girl behind buying a bottle of wine did though, but they don't look over 20.

It makes no sense, either have a blanket ban or no some **** pot policy that changes every year, Challenge 21 Challenge 25, what next Challenge 29 ?

I am well aware why the store do it, but i am not sure i buy the whole "keep alcohol away from kids" theory. I think it's more to do of covering the store's back side more than teenage drinking.

If i am in a gang of youth, and knowing that the person buying it will get ID, then you just send in the person in the group old enough and stock up. Everyone wait in the car park, it is as simple as that.

Yes I agree they are just covering there own back & so are we by asking for I.D. before we sell it to Anybody. As I sadi before we actually get fined as well & it's Not a small fine.
As for the car park trick that won't work in our store as we are surprisingly strict, Our security monitors the car park as well as the store & our cameras are Superb, Even the slightest suspicion of any dodging dealings concerning alcohol purchase & everybody gets blanked.
An example is a drunk woman who came in & got refused, She went out & got the sober taxi driver to come in & they refused him as well.
We are Very strict.

Right but how about this right. I am 16 and have NEVER been IDd and i cant even count the amount of times i have been served in pubs or clubs. Absolutley crazy idon't even know how i get away with it myself in all honesty. When i say clubs they are the ones more outside the city centre really

I'm glad they're being extra careful these days. They were doing the job they get paid to do.

Just carry your ID next time and you'll be ok.

I went to Tesco earlier and I was asked my age and I'm really old.
Don't blame the supermarkets, blame the police and authoriteez because stores are on a 3 strikes and out.

Who the hell doesn't have ID in their wallet when they're 18.
In my work, I always ask for ID if they look under 25. If they don't like it and kick up a fuss, I move them along to customer service - don't need to take crap from people just becuase they don't carry ID with them.

I've been served at a bar, and I'm 15. I was with adults, but I shouldn't have been served, really. Can't complain though. ;)

Honestly, I'd have no problem with being ID'd. If I'm old enough I should have ID on me, if I'm not, they don't serve me. Simple as.

This has nothing to do with proving you are of legal age to buy a restricted item. It has everything to do with social programming getting you all used to showing ID to anyone that asks. I got asked for ID in Boots a few months ago when buying safety razors ffs! I am 40 years old.

I refused and told them not to be so pathetic, the woman serving said the till displays a message requiring her to ask (social programming). This ******* world is going nuts and by allowing these idiots to ask such stupid questions and passively accepting it will only make it worse.

If ever I am asked for ID I get real stroppy now, I even got asked when entering a pub, I repeat, I am 40! I urge you all to do the same.

Its about time I got my old craggy paper driving licence sorted out for a nice shiney photocard one with my mug on it along with the relevant details.

Thing is as somebody said earlier on in this post it does seem like this could be the paving for the national id card thing. Imagine loosing that card and not being able to get food, buy some fags or travel about. Talk about 1984 lol.

I do wonder how some pubs get away with it. There's a place I end up at on a fair few friday nights where literally 80% of the people there are under 18...how on earth do they not get fined to hell and back?

That is exactly what it is about, those that cannot see it are too stupid for words, those that don't deserve all they get.

Personally i don't get about the National ID thing, if you have a driving licence then the details are already on a database. I already have an ID card from Hong Kong (uber fast immigration clearance), and i don't really see what the fuss is about.

But that's a whole other topic !

That's all very well until you fall foul of Section 92 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, and can't get a license, provisional or otherwise. I don't routinely carry any form of ID. If I didn't have a passport, I wouldn't actually have any.

Hmm yeah I hadn't thought about that, I can see how that would be a problem! I am expecting it's going to end up where if you want to buy any age restricted product then you have to show ID - similar to what people say it's like in America. The minimum age for buying without ID is slowly creeping up it seems.

As stated before, it's an insurance thing.

The vast, vast majority of adults carry with them ID. If you can vastly reduce your insurance cost, you would be a boneheaded business not to implement an 'ask <25' policy.
