When do 106's do 140?

I take it that it's fairly easy to transplant engines in these then??

I may well be mistaken but i thought the 1.9 gti was 115bhp stock? This flew up to speed, it wasn't your average 'foot to the floor down a hill on the motorway for three miles' affair. Would people be using nos or anything on the road? I would imagine that an indicated 140 would actually be around 125which i suppose isn't massively outlandish i suppose. It was the acceleration that surprised me more than anything.

You are thinking 205gti and the later 1.9s were 130bhp...

Waht car has the OP got as I assume it was his speedo he was reading ;) and as per above it's probably mroe like 125-130...and a 106 doesn't weigh a lot!

Cramming a 2litre Mi16 into a 106 is not easy, anyone got a link to a project car where it's been done as I'd be quite interested to see how they managed it?

I would guess it's the 1.6 engine, tho some people have supercharged them for 160BHP+...

Supercharger conversions are also popular for these.

Plus - 140mph not on a race track - you're a loon :-)

I have seen some nippy 106's - As they are very light etc... but how one could pull to 140... it must have been modded.

How long were you following it for?

The same way they can turn corners at 153mph.

To be fair, it probably had an Mi16 lump in it.

^^ What he said.
Pretty standard conversion for those in the know & the power to weight ratio is Superb.

I think its a bit of a silly conversion to be honest. fine if you a power mad, but it screws up the handling royally. so much heavier up front

Not an easy conversion either in the 106, requires fabrication, and due to the size of the gearbox steering lock has to be reduced iirc

I really don't think sensible comes into the equation :p Just a matter of Max power at minimal cost. The fact that the end result is a death trap when it comes to getting round bends is irrelevant until they try it. :D

I cant believe there are people talking about doing those sorts of speeds on public roads....

:p:p:p

Sorry mate but do you go out at all ???

Well I've seen it done on plenty of 205's but the 106 looks like one hell of a job! I think a supercharger would be the way forward really...

He could have been on the autobahn, but as it's a "local bypass" it probably isn't ;)

I was thinking just the same, almost posted it as well.

TBH a 106 in the right trim could do 140 on the clock perhaps even a stock GTI will do this, so perhaps no that odd, i'm no Pug expert.

You are dreaming if a standard 1600cc 16v GTI does 140, i had a C2 GT and they have the same engine, and most i got out that was 120, and at that it was rattling its cheap european head off.

If you did a fair bit work it may be possible tho

GOD! - Have you seen all the 106 Turbo clips on Youtube??

They are beating M3's and EVO's!!! - lol
