Yup - your revision is much closer to what is needed to prevent OcUK getting bitten and looks very similar to what we'd do (I work in the software industry so I'm used to dealing with IP). Good call, but I'm not endorsing it either. :)
 
My entry. Doubt I'm going to win any prizes as:

#1 - I can't do it in EPS format.
#2 - It's not pro enough.

If, by some miracle it does win and it needs to be redrawn and altered slightly, i'll happily take the original prize which was the 9800 as payment :)

I remember when our company changed its logo years ago it cost something ridiculous like 200 grand for a few squiggles. Mind you, its is no where near as easy as it sounds.
 
An arty type might need direction, OcUK might not have any ideas and value community/customer input.

Someone who gets paid £££ for their skills probs won't bother, but someone like me who doesn't get paid £££ for their efforts might be able to do something comparable and usable as I do it as a hobby.
 
Just messing around with the first concept so far :p still a lot of work needed on it before I make a proper effort on this one but thought I'd put it down incase someone made a similar style ;) (so I can say no no!)

That looks really good so far, maybe creating some sort of speedometer out of the round area :)
