**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Yeah this is England, with the best league in the world and to have that we need the best players in the world to play in it. Unfortunately the majority of the world's best players at this moment in time are not English ;)

We can't have it both ways.

I wouldnt mind Lennon, but I thought that he had already made it clear that he had no intention of joining Liverpool. Its not just a question of money, its also a question of whether or not the person is a realistic target, willing to leave their current club and willing to come to Liverpool.

You're right about the need for new players (I would also add another RB to that), and definately right about the need to remove dead wood and bring in English players (something which may turn out to be vital).

Babel...I just dont like the guy. He's quick definately, but just runs and then gets tackled. Aside from that, it really did rile me when he said he was as good as Thierry Henry. That just made me burst out laughing.

Riera has his games, sometimes he can be brilliant, but other times he just doesnt show up.

Don't agree that it's the best league in the world.

Sky have brainwashed people into thinking this.

As a nation, we should be bringing through and developing English players, not buying players from elsewhere and slowing English developement.

A club of Liverpool's stature should be able to prise him away from Villa, especially with the temptation of CL football.

Why does the winger have to be English though? Plenty of European talent out there at better value.

Because if FIFA get their way and push through the 6+5 rule then we would need 6 English players in our starting 11. We dont exactly have all that many positions we could facilitate English players in (given the players we would certainly want to keep), so obviously the positions which might be being bought for would be an option for 1 of the english players

Are you serious? lol

Look at our clubs dominating the CL over recent years. We also have the world's current "best" club in Man Utd - It's the best league in the world bar none. Maybe not always the most entertaining, but the toughest and highest quality for sure.

Liverpool (in my opinion) have a lot of average players, they are carried by a handful of really good players.

Rafa, season in season out buys more average players.
Bring through a few new english centerbacks, you have Jack Hobbs who looks really promising.
Get some young wingers, quick nippy, who can put the ball in to Torres. Get another striker to take the pressure off Torres.
Removed and replace dead wood.

Liverpool have 11 goalkeepers

Yeah but that's all if and when.

Even if it does come through eventually, it'll be a few years down the line at least.

I'd argue that someone like Downing will be on his last legs by then anyway, so it doesn't really warrant you buying him this summer purely down to him being english.

But there are very few English players *bar United* in those teams, you could say that England don't really dominate Europe, that world players dominate.

You can't base the strength of a league on 4 teams.
Spain have a lot of good players, Italy have a lot of Italian good players, (look who's won the world cup ? and the European cup last)

England's team, below the top 4 is very very very average.

The proposal was passed in theory in Australia last year (by a massive margin, 155 votes to just 5 against).

The proposed timescale was 4+7 for 2010, 5+6 for 2011 and 6+5 for 2012. So not really all that far down the line at all.

(frankly at the moment, we would even struggle for 4+7 in 2010)

So 4+7 is going to be in play, in England for the 09/10 (next) season? First I've heard of it.

I've herd about this, seems Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea will struggle with this.

Only thing that bothers me, is if Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea don't have the correct numbers, will the European place go down until they find a club with the correct numbers, i,e Spurs, Aston Villa, Everton ?

I just struggle to believe that 4+7 will be in place for next season. The lack of media coverage for one and also that none of the managers seem to be that concerned by it, when like you say some teams would find it hard.

Young would be an outstanding signing, but we're already on poor terms with MON and, from what I remember, he put a value of £35m or thereabouts on him last year.

In reality though, £20M would more than likely get him. Liverpool should use the money they re-couped from Keane and push the boat out.

anyone know anymore about the BBC claiming Kaka is in talks with United? As much as id love to see him wear the shirt, i find it highly unlikely.
